Title: Chineham railway station
Post by: berksandhants on June 02, 2008, 17:39:43
As Reading's Green Park station is being built, there has been talk of building another suburban railway station at the opposite end. There has been some talk about building a railway station in Chineham, a suburb of Basingstoke. The residential area has a population of 7,000 as well as a business park and another nearby residential estate called Popley.

This 2005 report showed things to be promising:

On a community website, I found some information from a councillor:

There seems to have been setbacks since, as it was suggested it could run parallel with the construction of Green Park, but it seems the Reading station succeeded at one point where the Basingstoke proposal hit a hurdle.

From the Basingstoke Gazette (https://www.basingstokegazette.co.uk/news/19019828.chineham-station-among-projects-funded-developers/)

Quote
Chineham could be set to finally get its own train station, after years of discussions.

Councillors have agreed that cash given the council from property developers should be used to help fund a project to build a station in the suburb of Basingstoke.

The idea of having a railway station at Chineham on the Basingstoke to Reading line has long been discussed, with conversations stretching back decades.

Well, not quite - we had years of "soon to be built", and now we have who knows how many years of "being built". And then? Years of "built and soon to be opened"?

I have now amended the name to the correct spelling of Chineham on the Wikipedia route-map diagram of their Reading to Basingstoke line diagram.

Was the (then) possible station for Grazeley Garden Village (now a deceased project) told that it was not possible to fit an extra ststion on the Reading - Basingstoke timings. There was then a suggestion of moving Mortimer station to cover the development, and the expected response from Mortimer and its station users.
