I did Exeter to Manchester (via Newport and Hereford) in August 2001, when Wales and West gave the Barnstaple Season Ticket holders a complimentary ticket when the line reopened after the 2000/01 floods.

Coming back from Manchester it was the only time I've ever been on a train that had every single seat reserved!

Wales and West had some great through services on it's network as did Virgin XC in it's early days.

What does "Seat Reservations Compulsory" mean? We won't let you onboard without one?
