As Bath and Oxford launch plans for traffic-free city centres, architect David Mackay argues that cars should be let back into Plymouth's (link below.)

He also says that the only way to deal with the car is through "controlled gridlock."

What better way of causing "controlled gridlock" is there other than a tram running down the centre of the street, stopping and blocking the traffic flow then changing all the traffic lights in front of it?

while i agree that causing gridlock is a great way of getting people to find an alternative please spare a thought for us poor van drivers :0( we all need our parcels... bring back red star :0)
