Man dies after being hit by train 
 
A 53-year-old man died after being hit by a train at Hayle railway station in Cornwall, police said. An eyewitness said the man climbed onto the track to talk to some teenage girls on the other platform and had been unable to climb back up in time. The incident, which is being treated as an accident, happened at about 1400 GMT, said police.

Very bad news. But it does confuse me.

What was wrong with the footbridge/normal crossing (not sure of the station facilities)?

To save me from looking totally bad, condolences to the family and friends of this man.

The double track is crossed at Hayle by a light controlled authorised line crossing. There's no footbridge.

Wouldn't want to speculate at the moment into the circumstances I expect more news tomorrow.

there is one of these crossings at dawlish I thought it was for railway staff only, I don't want to speculate too much about how this happened all I know is that you never linger on the line and always wear a high viz I just hope people learn from this senceless waste my thoughts go to the family train crew and any witnesses

Station entry at Hayle is blind to the driver coming off a left hand curve, this crossing is for the public as there is no other way to cross the line for 'up' trains.
There are possibly two 'W' on and before the station but it's (typically) a 'good to hang out' place that attracts people that have no intention of boarding a train.

Very sad and devastating for the driver.

No further information about the circumstances has been released, apart from the naming of the person killed. Investigations are said to be continuing, the circumstances are still being considered an accident.

Train involved was the 0800 Paddington - Penzance which continued through to Penzance after the incident.

The person who was killed is a well known drunk and druggie and fare dodger, still sad for the driver though.

You knew him as well, first time I met him he offered his cigarettes around - he threatened to attack a chap who unfortunately said 'no thanks'...that was 35 years ago - things never got any better.

Trust me, he was beyond help, a very unpleasant person, some people in life are just born like it and never change.

Tragedy?? For the traincrew and all who had to witness it maybe. But for society, its a blessing!

In my opinion, the loss of a life is NEVER a blessing.
