Title: Statue Of Brunel Erected In Plymouth Post by: Lee on July 28, 2007, 10:51:22 A two - metre high statue of celebrated engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel has been installed on the Pennycomequick roundabout. The wooden statue , which appeared on Plymouth Hoe last summer to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Brunel's birth and form the focal point of the city's South West in Bloom entry , has been given a permanent home on the thoroughfare (link below.)

Brunel famously designed the Royal Albert Bridge , spanning the Tamar and connecting Plymouth to Saltash , which opened in 1859. Councillor Michael Leaves , cabinet member for streetscene and environmental regulations , said: "Brunel was at the forefront of bringing the Great Western Railway to Plymouth. We wanted to find a permanent home for the sculpture and this seemed a perfect location."
