Title: Queue of HSTs this morning
Post by: johoare on May 25, 2009, 20:16:25
Does anyone know what was up on the main line into London this morning? Whilst trundling down the relief line on a stopper about 11.30am, there were several HSTs stopped between about Iver and airport junction.. They did eventually pass us as we were much closer into Paddington, but there was no apparent reason for them to be stopped..

No, sorry, Jo: I can't find any explanation for your particular delay.  ;)

Thanks super tm..  It didn't affect me fortunately, but there were a lot of worried football fans hanging out of the door windows on the train stuck at Iver. I imagine they got to their match in the end..  :)

I was at Wycombe for about half an hour yesterday morning and Chiltern were carrying loads of fans on each train. There were works on the WCML as I saw a couple of diverted Virgin's go through there as well. Even a W&S service passed by (with 4 Mk3 coaches) and some fans on board - still no sign of their proper coaches!

Also, about 100 fans of both teams (in the 30 mins I was there) parked up in Wycombe car park having driven down from the North to come off at the M40 there and let Chiltern drop them off right outside the ground at Wembley Stadium. Perhaps some savvy marketing was placed in the local paper in Burnley/Sheffield by Chiltern? Or word of mouth? Either way it's an excellent way to get to Wembley.

Yes - I agree!

However it doesnt explain what they were doing on trains between Iver and airport junction which is where Jo spied them - unless Chiltern were seriously diverted!

I know W&S put on special trains for the shrewbury game over the weekend!

Indeed.. However there was also a Sheffield fan (just the one) on my train. I guess some fans support teams who aren't local for whatever reason (they used to live there etc)  :)
