IRJ's Andrew Roden gives a rave review that may surprise those who regularly travel or work on board (link below.)

I agree with a lot of this - as a (standard class) commuter who has a preference for "airline-style" seats I find them much more comfortable than the previous layout, and somehow I feel there is more legroom. Haven't tried the laptop sockets yet. My other half does not like the high seatbacks, nor the lack of a toilet in coach A (or more specifically the lack of a "engaged" sign in coach A relating to the nearest one in coach B).

It's a good article.  If I read correctly it suggests that the decision to remove buffet cars on short distance HST services when balanced against creating a 'standard' HST+Buffet fleet has yet to be taken?  I thought it had?!  I would prefer to see all services with a walk-up buffet car as there is no way a trolley could get through crowded aisles during peak periods!  Also, without sounding impatient or greedy, when I want a hot drink, I walk up to the buffet and get it!  I dont really want to wait for an hour for the trollet to come around!!

Anyway, back to the article, and I personally see the creation of a 'standard' HST+Buffet much better than two sets of fleet, at least that would give better flexibility!!

Hopefully FGW will see sense in keeping a standard fleet with buffet car. If they want to operate a trolley as well then thats a good move as well.
