It is thought the man has been suspended following the blunder involving the South Wales to London Paddington service as it left Cardiff Central.

A source at Arriva Trains Wales , which employs station staff at Cardiff Central , said the incident happened because the platform supervisor could not find his baton to dispatch the train.

He jumped on the train to grab a newspaper instead , but forgot to close the door.
