Title: 'Silent spaces and quiet respect', from the Malay Mail
Post by: Chris from Nailsea on July 10, 2009, 01:01:50
From the Malay Mail (http://www.mmail.com.my/content/7664-pedestrian-silent-spaces-and-quiet-respect) (no, again: seriously! ::) ), an article is illustrated with a picture of an FGW 'quiet carriage':

Quote
NO SMALL TALK: The standard ^Quiet Carriage^ of a high speed train operated by UK^s First Great Western where mobile phones are not permitted.

Am I causing you nuisance if I recieve a text whilst my phone is on silent? Hardly.

Unless of course, you are able to intercept microwave signals.

I know they are illegal, but I am tempted at times to buy one of those mobile phone jammers. It would be great fun on an evening train out of Paddington   ;D

A couple of years back there was a spell of, mainly teenagers, going to their local comet/currys/etc with a pre-programmed "all-in-one" TV remote control in their pocket. Never saw it myself, but apparently it was quite entertaining watching all the TVs changing channels and switching themselves on and off, with the staff dashing round like madmen wondering what was happening !
