In my regular experience some up Penzance/Paddington HSTs now regularly struggle to keep to the timetable between Penzance and Plymouth because of overcrowding most notably the 0844 and 1000 HSTs from Penzance to Paddington.Both trains regularly needing 5 or 10 minutes more than the current timetable allows to reach Plymouth.In the summer timetable not surprisingly even more trains are effected by this problem so FGW really needs to  amend the timetable in Cornwall to reflect train running reality.

Oooh, don't mention that to Btline, you'll get a telling off for suggesting the the schedule is "padded"  ;)

And not forgetting they are only recorded as 'late' at their ultimate destination....lots of opportunity to make up time before Paddington.....

I do agree with you, however there is at least 3 mins recovery between Exeter and Taunton and 5 mins between Taunton and Reading, not to mention about 5 again between Reading and Paddington.

It is not just the up trains that struggle to keep to time, but some of the down trains also struggle to keep to time, and can lose up to ten minutes by Par. The trains that I know get affected are the 1511 from Plymouth in the summer and the 1726 at all times of year.

Ah but you forget, everybody gets off at Plymouth, apparently...

Perhaps they are all transfering to Plymouth airport for onwards travel to the outskirts of London ;)
