Title: New Roads For Buses Only
Post by: Lee on August 25, 2007, 14:34:49
Frustrated motorists who curse being barred from bus lanes could soon have a new bugbear to deal with - entire roads reserved just for buses (link below.)

South Gloucestershire council is planning to build one such bus-only road to service a new estate of 1,250 homes at Stoke Gifford (near Bristol Parkway.)

Electronically controlled gates and bollards will stop car drivers getting on to the 900m stretch of road , which is designed to reduce traffic on the already congested Avon ring road when people start moving to the huge housing development.

The new road will run from the roundabout on the south side of the Ministry of Defence headquarters at Abbey Wood (near Filton Abbey Wood station) to the access road for the University of the West of England.

House-building firm Redrow snapped up the 77-acre site from computing outfit Hewlett Packard last year for a reported ^55 million when the company finally ruled out its own expansion plans for the site.
