Title: Group Save Tickets
Post by: grahame on August 31, 2007, 13:41:00
Another thread triggered me to start a separate thread on the subject of Group Save tickets, as they might not be something everyone knows about.

On the machines, one of the biggest farces' is you can't do Group Save

With Group Save, you basically have a "buy 2, get 2 free" deal.  So in other words, four adults can travel for the price of two.   I'm not terribly sure which tickets it applies to (but I'm sure someone will answer that for me!) and I think there's also a "one pound per child" add on deal.

Basically - a very good deal if you happen to be travelling in a group .....

Valid on Cheap Day Singles/Returns and Saver singles/Returns and children for a quid! Under Wessex they were only valid on cheap day returns but FGW allow on Savers, not valid at all on Virgin though! and not available from the new ticket machines at stations!

Thanks, Gents ... I hadn't realised it was special rate tickets only ... and I was wondering why I wasn't hearing of "Commuter Clubs" using the tickets to reduce their daily costs by travelling together.

Grahame.

In a previous thread it was stated ;-

That is correct but you can buy a Group Save fare on the train without penalty as this, at the appropriate times, can be a valid ticket type which is not vended by a ticket machine.

Also it is fact that you can also buy a ticket on the train without penalty if your method of payment is not accepted by the TVM, in particular I refer to Rail Travel Vouchers and Travel Tokens but I wouldn't be sure if a cheque backed by a cheque guanrantee card would be accepted, perhaps someone in the know would oblige with a definitve answer in this particular instance.
