From FGW's web pages there is a meet the manager session scheduled on the 1311 from Hereford to Paddington. On the same web pages this train is announced as starting from Worcester, wonder if the managers caught their train or had to wait for the next one.

Some of the managers in question travelled on the down working from Paddington 0822 to Hereford so would have been aboard from Worcester.

Here are the dates and locations for First Great Western's 'Meet the Manager' sessions for the 12 months from April 2011:

Despite the information given on the relevant website page there are not 25 sessions listed for the coming year and there are no on-train sessions. Perhaps the rest of the sessions are yet to be finalised.  :-\

First Great Western hold 25 Meet the Manager sessions each year.

These are held at various stations throughout our network and on some selected High Speed Train Services.

At the Meet the Manager events, customers are invited to meet our senior managers and directors to discuss your thoughts and suggestions for our services.

All sessions at stations are held during evening peak travelling times.
PM - from 1630 / 1700 to 1900

*Please note, times may vary. Look out for posters at your station to confirm times.

The table below displays the date,  time and station or train service for all the events until the end of March 2011.

They had a recorded announcement at Reading today advertising the Meet the Managers session tomorrow. Voiced by the same person who normally does the weekend engineering announcements.

Yes, that's Rodger, he is also the new male PA voice as well, he does loads of other announcements down here, like announcing stations are part of penalty fare areas, and also smoking. The year before last he also did announcements about the timetables changes, however FGW have used the built in announcements into the current PA at HSS stations once or twice before, which sounded a lot better. Pity they can't use the built in announcement about the meet the manager sessions as well.

They appear to always do an announcement about the meet the manager sessions, I've heard announcements at Plymouth and Exeter St Davids. Its good to hear they announce it, specially for people who don't venture that deeply into FGWs website.

Does that mean they are getting rid of Phil Sayer and Celia Drummond?

Does that mean they are getting rid of Phil Sayer and Celia Drummond?

Not 100% sure if i'm honest.

It appears at the moment they are working at making Rodger/Anne the new voices have similar content in the announcements as Celia/Phil at HSS.
I would imagine this is because they want to keep Celia/Phil at HSS stations because they can do far more complex announcements, such as what I mentioned before.

As FGW said "Network Rail will be undertaking a project to install a like-for-like CIS system over 2011-12" Depends what your definiation of like-for-like is really!  ???

Was a MTM at Truro today but seemed to be only local managers, didn't see any senior ones

I'd expect Julian Crow, maybe, unlikely any higher than he.

Surely better to have the local managers who know what they are talking about that the big wigs that might be less knowledgable?

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions
Post by: JayMac on May 25, 2011, 06:25:45
I note that there are still only 12 MtM station sessions listed on the FGW website, with the first page saying that there are 17 at stations and a further 8 on board trains.

Was Truro's an official MtM? Because FGW haven't bothered to include it on the list on their website.

Well. 10 weeks have passed since I posted the incomplete list of Meet the Manager sessions, when can we expect to see the remaining sessions arranged and advertised?

Just another Franchise Commitment that FGW seem to feel they can get away with not complying.  ::) >:(

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions

Thats complete trash!

If they all fall in the last 6 months of their year, they can be posted in the next few months & still have plenty of notice given!

Just get off your soapbox.....you're getting boring.

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions
Post by: JayMac on June 19, 2011, 16:59:38
Hang on. One has apparently already happened at Truro without advertising on the website. That's a franchise commitment breach.

ChrisB. I'll do a deal with you. I'll put my soapbox away if you give up your FGW trumpet.

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions
Post by: ChrisB on June 19, 2011, 17:01:03
I've no trumpet - just seeing things from both sides and being fair.

AS you rightly note, it wasn't an 'offficial' MTM. Therefore no requirement.

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions
Post by: JayMac on June 19, 2011, 17:14:23
Point partly conceded about Truro, I wasn't there, but another forum member believed it was a MtM session.

Rather than have a pop at me, how about enquiring of your masters about the remaining 12 sessions and letting us passengers know.

The website says "The table below displays the date,  time and station or train service for all the events until the end of February 2012."

(My emphasis in bold)

I note MtM session advertising wasn't discussed at the latest London and Cotswolds CP meeting. Don't think I'll bother bringing it to the attention of my local CP member.

As for the trumpet. Fair enough. Not easy to blow one when on a high horse.  :P ;D

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions
Post by: ChrisB on June 19, 2011, 17:25:36
You're the one on a high horse about finding any possible minute break of their franchise - which is extremely boring, especially as this isn't affecting the public.

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions
Post by: JayMac on June 19, 2011, 17:47:00
I'm public, Id like to know if there is another session in Bristol or on a train from Bristol before December 2011.

As for minute breaks in a franchise.... the specific commitments are there whether you or anyone else likes it or not. FGW signed up to those commitments - the big ones and the small ones - so I see no difference based on a arbitrary definition of the minuteness of the commitment.

If Chiltern can be fined for being a month late knocking up a platform shelter.....

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions

I'd rather FGW focused on running a train service than updating their website.

I'd like to see the website highlight the train services they run.

Agreed ... except it's different people who do each job, so it's not really "either / or".  ;)   Good attempt at making a tradeoff, but you didn't catch me.  ;D

With respect, if, for example, a MTM is in December, October is surely suifficient notice? Indeed, a month is ample, IMHO.

Here we go again - I've already explained elsewhere.
That was a very minor infirngement which, on it's own, wouldn't have necessitated a fine.
What they got fined for was passing PSR services to WSMR, who they also own. Effectively allowing farebox raids on their income. Totally against franchise rules, and they knew it too.

The maximum fine was 10% of their annual revenue, so ^350,000 is avery minor fine.

They were also losing the open stops at Banbury / Leamington which started the farebox raids - something I believe that was the final nail in WSMR - not that it ever made any money, losing ^1million or more every year. Great service, wrong destination.

That's what they got fined for - the other minor breaches were added to the charge sheet to completely clear them of every wrong 'un.

OK. Just add FGWs 'minute' breach to the charge sheet......

Three more sessions have been added to the MtM diary. All happening on local trains from Plymouth on Weds Nov 2nd, one to Gunnislake and two to Penzance.

9 more sessions to be advertised.....

Nothing listed on the FGW website, and I also note that no requirement to hold such sessions has been included in the interim franchise agreement from October 2013. Previously FGW were required to hold a set number of sessions per annum. Has this requirement been quietly dropped?

Readers of the Frequent Posters Club will understand why I might like a face-to-face with senior management at Paddington...

Three dates now up on the FGW website - first one in April.

Considering it says 'fgw hold 25 meet the manager sessions each year' it is interesting to note that the 3 dates stretch all the way until Christmas. In 2014 there was only 1 advertised Paddington session, and 3 advertised at reading.

It is possibly like this at the moment because only the dates for Paddington have been confirmed. The response I got on twitter said that the website would be updated when the dates came through from the regional managers. I'd hazard a guess at more dates to be added soon.

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions
Post by: JayMac on January 29, 2015, 21:45:02
A few more dates have been added. The list as of 29th January 2015:

Reading - between 1600 and 1900 -Tuesday 24 March 2015
London Paddington - between 1600 and 1900 - Thursday 16 April 2015
Reading - between 0730 and 0930 - Tuesday 16 June 2015
London Paddington - between 0700 and 1000 - Thursday 13 August 2015
Reading - between 1600 and 1900 - Tuesday 06 October 2015
London Paddington - between 1600 and 1900 - Thursday 10 December 2015

I'm still unsure about the requirement for FGW to hold a set number of sessions per year though. As I said up thread, it's not in the latest interim franchise agreement, published in October 2013.

Does it matter as long as the dates are forthcoming? Any operator worth their salt will hold them regardless. The next direct award appears to be moving goalposts across the customer contact methods...we'll have to await HMG

Title: Re: 'Meet the Manager' sessions
Post by: JayMac on January 29, 2015, 22:02:18
If there's a total of 25 across the network this year, split between stations and on trains, as was the number per year mandated in the 2007 franchise agreement, then no, it doesn't matter.

Online Meet the Manager (on the buses)

Quote
Online Meet the Manager session being held on Monday 9 February

Following the success of its previous Online Meet the Manager sessions First West of England will be running another virtual event for customers on Monday (9 February) between 5 and 7pm.

The two-hour online Meet the Manager event will give people the chance to talk directly to First^s management team via the power of the internet, either asking specific questions about local bus services or offering direct feedback. It is being held in addition to the normal Meet the Manager sessions, which are generally held every few months at various locations throughout the West of England.

Between 5 and 7pm on Monday 9 February customers will be able to ask First West of England managers anything they like via Twitter or Facebook. They will have the option to either post a message onto the Facebook wall (www.facebook.com/FirstWestofEngland), send a direct private message via the Facebook Page, or tweet the company, at @FirstBSA, using the hashtag 'tweetboss' ie #tweetboss. Messages will be answered on the night by First West of England^s Managing Director, James Freeman and the business^ Regional Customer Services Manager, Natacha Tagholm.

Talking about the event, Natacha Tagholm, Regional Customer Services Manager, says: ^This event, like the others we run, will give our customers a way of directly engaging with us. It^s not intended to replace the traditional Meet the Manager events, but it broadens the appeal to those people who perhaps don^t have the time to come to something in person.

^This event has been timed to coincide with the commuter period. If people are travelling home on our services then there will be the chance to use our free WiFi (where available) to take part in this online session.

^This really is the opportunity to ask whatever you like. If we can answer it we will. We'd also welcome any general or positive feedback people have too ^ for instance if you've had a good journey or an especially friendly driver then please let us know that as well!^

To take part in the Online Meet the Manager session, customers should include the hashtag #tweetboss when tweeting the company.

There will be 2 short notice meet the manager sessions with Nick Reid (Station Manager for Westbury area) on 11th and 18th Feb at Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon. Both are from 0700-0930. I think that's the right order but I'll rectify if it's wrong.

It can't be a coincidence that there is a FirstBUS online meet the manager running at exactly the same date and the same time. Hosted by James Freeman newly appointed MD of First BSA. Comes to us from Reading buses, where his stellar reputation precedes him. I fear that having inherited the poisoned chalice , his lustre is coming off in large lumps, Also up for interrogation, is Natacha Tagholm Regional Director for Firstbus in S Wales and the West Country. In a local face to face M the M session held in Portishead last year, she told me that the centralisation of First Customer Services in Southampton was her idea.....

Saw a poster at Westbury advertising a 'Meet the Manager' session at Bath Spa tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd April 2015,  between 1600 - 1800. Poster mentions that it is an opportunity to find out more about the forthcoming electrification work in the Bath area.

Not advertised on FGW's website I notice and I think finishing at 1800 is not ideal as many commuters will miss the opportunity.

I thought I'd look up the next Meet The Manager session on the GWR/FGW website and have drawn a blank.  Has this method of feedback been canned?  I recall an earlier comment on here that it was a condition of the franchise to hold a certain number per year.
