She discovered a FirstDay Bath Child All Day ticket , bought before 9am on weekdays , costs ^2.70. But she was advised at Bath bus station that the most economical option for her would be to purchase an adult monthly ticket. It costs ^52.40 a month but does save her at least ^1.60 in comparison to the child all day ticket. A spokesman for First said the company did have a number of discounted tickets available for children and under-16s and there was a possible alternative to paying for an all day child ticket for some parents. However it is planning to look into the matter further. "On this occasion it is clear that we need to investigate this further," said the spokesman. "There is a cheaper alternative for children which is the scholar's pass. This works out 20p less than a Bath monthly adult travelcard." Moving on to that other rip-off company, FGW, my dad came down from Liverpool last weekend and we were getting the train from Oldfield Park to Bristol. We wanted to return the following day but FGW don't allow you to buy a return to come back the next day. Then the shock - a single cost ^5.40! A day return is 20p more! I've already complained to Worst Great Western about this on several occasions but they think the best way to deal with my complaint is to ignore me and not even have the courtesy to reply. Sort it out First Group - some of us have no choice but to use your pathetic rip-off buses and trains." Yup, and the walk-on fares structure is largely the same with all TOC's! And, for the record, Saver Returns allow return travel up to a month after the purchase date... Savers don't exists for most short journeys, though.
