Does anyone know anything about this report? I had a look elsewhere but couldn't immediately find anything relating to it.

Regarding the following quote :

"plus improvements to rail services, including extra carriages on existing and additional rail services, the reopening of disused railway lines and stations, and improved facilities at stations."

David Redgewell said at the FOSBR meeting on 13/10/2007 (which I attended) that it was down to FOSBR pressure that this element had been included in the strategy document.

Quote :

Interestingly enough, the MAP does mark "rail improvements" on the portishead line...

Could this be a go ahead for investment perhaps?

This looks a good opportunity for all interested parties to lobby vigorously to ensure that the rail elements of the strategy are developed. The timescales are depressingly long though, and shouldn't detract the campaigning for shorter term improvements. 

Not just yet. The document makes initial proposals for an application to the Government's Transport Innovation Fund.

After consultation and with the approval of all the councils involved , the West of England Partnership is aiming to submit its full application in early 2008. They expect to hear whether they will get funding some time next summer.
