Rail chiefs have applied for planning permission to safeguard a building targeted by squatters in Bath.

The 170-year-old former Twerton railway station has been empty for several years and was made a listed building along with the viaduct of which it is a part two years ago because it was designed by Victorian engineer Brunel. Now owned by Network Rail, it has been squatted in twice in recent times, with the intruders damaging the roof of the station, which closed in 1917. It has remained part of the railway estate because its south side can only be maintained from the trackside, but has been rented out to different businesses over the years.
