Title: First Bus fares in Bristol
Post by: JayMac on December 14, 2010, 00:25:10
ah the annoying passenger that only has a ^10 for a ^1.50 fare  ;D

Try that on a bus!!

S'okay on the buses round my way, there's no fares as cheap as ^1.50!!!

And First in Bristol have decided that, 'for the benefit of passengers', fares ending in 5p will be rounded so as to decrease the need for change tickets. Guess which way they rounded the majority of adult single fares that ended in 5p?

Hmm.  ::)

From the Bristol Evening Post (http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/news/Fares-rounded-8211/article-2967433-detail/article.html):

Quote
The company will be rounding some fares up and others down, it says, in a bid to avoid customers needing to carry small change.

Four fares will go up but 12 will fall as a result of the latest in a series of fare changes by the company this year.

Adult Single Fares: ^1.45 fare is rounded up to ^1.50 ^1.95 fare is rounded up to ^2 ^2.35 fare is rounded down to ^2.30 ^2.45 fare is rounded up to ^2.50 ^2.55 fare is rounded up to ^2.60 ^2.95 fare is rounded down to ^2.90

thats not a good way to do it, ^2.55 easier as ^2.50 surely less coins, and ^2.95 as ^3.00 rather than ^2.90, common sense there

... and that's perhaps the point, richwarwicker: we're dealing with First Bus, here - nothing to do with common sense!  :o

Whilst the BEP is correct to say that 12 fares will fall, nearly all those are child fares.
