Title: Two good train related TV programmes from the 'Top Gear' boys.
Post by: JayMac on June 12, 2011, 21:30:01
Tonight on BBC2 (12th June 2011) there were two programmes presented by Richard Hammond and James May respectively. Both programmes featured trains in one guise or another.

Richard Hammond's Engineering Connections (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0121l52/Richard_Hammonds_Engineering_Connections_Series_3_Bullet_Train/) focused on the technology behind Japan's Shinkansen trains.

James May's Toy Stories (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0120z75/James_Mays_Toy_Stories_The_Great_Train_Race/) saw another attempt to run OO Gauge trains between Barnstaple and Bideford.

Both great shows and available via the linked text on BBC iPlayer until 6pm ish Sunday 19th June.

James May is also repeated on BBC Two on Monday night at 7pm. Just as well - couldn't watch that and the Grand Prix!

Its good the route he used. Last time it was on (last years) he said he used it because he thought it should be reopened.

Richard Hammond's Engineering Connections focused on the technology behind Japan's Shinkansen trains goes a long way to explain why the new IEP bi mode will have engines distributed along the train and not have a 100 Tonne dead weight in one place
