Title: Bristol Bus Station Floor Needs Replacing - Less Than 2 Years After It Was Laid
Post by: Lee on November 03, 2007, 14:22:03
First spokesman Andy Barr would not say what the safety problems were and contractors Stocksfield Construction - who are laying the new floor but had nothing to do with the original work - said they had been told by First not to comment (link below.)

The comment that the bus station should be scrapped and rebuild on the vacant land next to Temple Meads is interesting!

As FG is nominally responsible for both, it would be in their interest to integrate train and bus services at Temple Meads.

Transport intergration is everything these days. I support it.

When I caught a bus the driver didn't have a ticket for me and the bus area looked pretty sparse

Well...Temple Meads isn't exactly smack in the middle of Bristol centre, so a plan would need to be put forward for those who can't walk the short distance ;) but I think that's a very good idea!

You would simply turn the 8/9 bus routes into free shuttles to the the centre.

Just as in main other cities, FG could offer a combined Bus/Train ticket for central Bristol. In essence, bus routes 8/9 would be free!

Also, with the building of Cabot Circus, it is almost as close as the existing bus station. It also has better access by car!

The opportunity of integrating bus and rail on one site for Bristol has probably been lost. FG and Bristol City Council are too blinkered to value the benefits of integrating Rail and Bus services at Temple Meads.

And incredibly there is a proposal to move the bus station away from the railway station in Cardiff. It is reasonably central as well, you can get to most places in the city centre within a 10 minute walk, particularly the shops, and if you need to go to the far end then there's a service every few minutes to Queen St.

Sorry, off topic a bit, I know.

i'd love to know were they want that put.

All the trains from Queen St go to Cantral anyway, so there is really no point
