POLICE LAUNCH APPEAL AFTER PASSENGER ASSAULTED - SWANSEA

British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for the public^s help in identifying a woman sought in connection with an assault on board a train at Swansea.

The incident occurred after a Wales v England rugby international earlier in the day.

Officers have released a CCTV image of a woman they would like to trace in connection with the incident, which happened on Saturday, 13 August 2011.

Investigating officer PC Chris Draisey said: ^The victim, a 23-year-old woman, was returning to Swansea from Cardiff after the Wales v England rugby match. While sat on the train, she was approached from behind by a person who assaulted her. This was a particularly nasty incident which left the victim in some distress. Luckily she did not suffer any serious injuries but this was a frightening experience for her.^

The assault took place around 8.40pm on board the 1937hrs Cardiff to Swansea service.

Officers have identified a woman they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

She is described as around 5ft 4in and was wearing a red Wales rugby shirt, had silver hoop earrings and short, black hair with red or purple streaks.

^The woman, who we believe goes by the name Nicky, was with a man who is described as tall and of large build, with shaved hair,^ said PC Draisey. ^He was also wearing a red Wales rugby shirt. Both of them left Swansea rail station and walked down High Street, before being seen entering the Walkabout public house on Wind Street.^

PC Draisey added: ^This was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent woman who had simply been out enjoying a rugby match. Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated on the rail network. It is essential that we identify the person responsible for this attack as soon as possible, and I urge anyone with any information to contact police as a matter of urgency.^
