British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for the public^s help in tracing a man they would like to speak to following the theft of a passenger^s luggage at Newport rail station.

Officers have also released a CCTV image of a person they believe may have information about the incident, which happened on Thursday, 1 September 2011.

Investigating officer PC Geoff Cook said: ^The victim, who was travelling with family members, put her rucksack in the luggage rack at the end of the carriage. When the train arrived into Cardiff Central station she realised it had been taken.

^We have identified a man we would like to speak to in connection with this incident. The person in question spoke to the victim on the train. I would urge anyone who knows this individual to come forward.^

The incident, which was reported to BTP at 1.20pm, took place on board the 1254hrs Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff service.
