Just spotted the typo ...of course it should say 'Snow joke'. Sorry, readers... rather less than 'chuffed' about that!

Just a shame ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) didnt get a mention.....

We will all have to bear with trainer for a little while...since ordering a new diesel/electric hybrid car, he's been a bit one track minded ..... Grin Grin Grin

Mind you when this Bristolian  (at training college in the 70s) was looked after by what he called VESTAL virgins, he found he could never get through to the contents, cuz of all the wrapping.....

If all this promised snow materialises, I think I might be glad of a VESPA if the train don't turn up !

Reckoned aforesaid cat used up another of its 9 lives eating the tuna out of a FGW (First Great Western) buffet sandwich...... Shocked
1312  All across the Great Western territory / Media about railways, and other means of transport / Re: New railway series on BBC2 - Locomotion - Dan Snow's History of railways on: January 16, 2013, 23:26:29
I agree with John R. I  think we have all become somewhat seduced by the glut of the glamorous Mr Portaloo staying in the best hotels, swanning around Europe and artificially stage managed bits of the UK (United Kingdom). This programme did what it said on the tin....the unvarnished truth,i.e  'loco motion' or 'mad movement'. The rushed breathess delivery, the suppressed excitement, the dirt, the water, the brilliant contrasts of light and darkness captured the mania of those ground breaking early years perfectly. Dan Snow brought a refreshing dose of realism to the whole subject by getting down and dirty where it really mattered.
1313  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Animals v trains - inevitably, only one possible result: some appalling puns! on: January 09, 2013, 17:59:18
think Chris from NailSEA...we locals call it 'Nellzee' ....may have thought we were all becoming somewhat  mollyCODDLED and decided to give this another fry, by going off bream a bit. I take the blame for casting the net wider,to catch some more puns and now that the chips are down, fully expect to be battered for doing so.
1314  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Animals v trains - inevitably, only one possible result: some appalling puns! on: January 09, 2013, 08:35:28
With all the flooding I am surprised a train hasn't collided with a certain type of cetacean mammal swimming across the tracks. Perhaps the guard could warble 'Whale Meat Again' to Control, before he issues flippers and snorkels to the stranded customers....
1315  All across the Great Western territory / Looking forward - after Coronavirus to 2045 / Re: Network Fail unveil plans on: January 08, 2013, 17:26:13
On the very first map of the 40 page booklet, they refer to Western- Super- Mare.... Shocked

Further on in the detailed plans there is maidenhead with a small m and 'Edingburgh!' Roll Eyes

AS I said to the media relations dept, if they can't get the little stuff right, whoever is going to trust them with the big stuff ?? Embarrassed

Reminds me  of the posh boy who was evacuated to the countryside in 1939/40. His horrified Mother when visiting, heard him shout down the lane to the herd .'Come on you F*****s, get a move on! When his mother remonstrated with him, he replied . 'well, the farmer calls 'em effers, but I know what he means really..... Shocked

Thank you grahame for your very thoughtful and insightful comments ..it is almost an cri de couer type of editorial, which I hope is read, and more importantly, acted upon by those in FGW (First Great Western) who can make all the difference!
