I hope the much lorded contact for the IEP (Intercity Express Program / Project.) diagrams with the penalties for not meeting the required diagrams is being enforced with these issues.
2  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Crossrail/Elizabeth Line. From construction to operation - ongoing discussion on: March 07, 2017, 22:40:57
Thanks for posting, very interesting. I can't imagine HEX are going to be very happy about running on the relief lines.
3  Journey by Journey / Thames Valley Branches / Re: Marlow line electrification on: June 19, 2016, 13:47:01
I believe that changing the track layout at Bourne end has already been discussed.

My question more relates to the possibility of using SDO (Selective Door Opening) at restricted stations like Marlow or others in the area due to no 2 car emus?
4  Journey by Journey / Thames Valley Branches / Re: Marlow line electrification on: June 19, 2016, 11:26:25
My understanding was / is that there's a road just behind the buffer stops - on the level - so extension by a carriage length or two towards High Wycombe is impractical at sensible price. And that the branch turns so sharply away that moving the Marlow point out by a carriage length (with implications on other land) isn't straightforward either.  I suspect that re-arranging the alignment so that Bourne End became s single platform, with a loop at Cookham, would allow for a 30 minute service but would still be 3 car limited.  Removing the reversal by moving Bourne End station to the non-existent side of the triangle would probably upset a few people with post houses, and be see as a retrograde step in the campaign to get back to High Wycombe.

Its been a while since I wandered around trackside at Bourne End, you will be suppressed just how much space there is to move the Marlow line turn out South.  The current layout is the victim of the 1970's closure than a fully planed layout, the used to be a Bay platform for the Marlow services when the line ran through to Wycombe, although the land the bay occupied has been sold.

Potentially to operate the TV branches some 2 car EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) could be purchased, although I don't think that would be the favoured option by the TOC (Train Operating Company)

Is SDO (Selective Door Opening) not an option for Marlow, rather than an expensive platform extension? I assume that the 387s or other new emus have SDO?
5  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Christmas 2015 - Engineering work and revised travel arrangements on: December 27, 2015, 23:01:28
Does anyone know if Paddington car park is open tomorrow? I am planning a trip into London tomorrow with the car due to the closures and am looking for a cheap place to park. Paddington seems to be ^10 on public holidays, just not sure if its open with all the work going on.
6  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Email from GWR on: December 16, 2015, 22:20:57
Made use of this toady for a few tickets for my mum.

The website is very clunky and it was really difficult to book for more than one journey, ended up doing 3 separate transactions.
7  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / HST running semi fasts on: December 01, 2015, 22:54:58
I noticed a HST (High Speed Train) running a semi fast service padd-reading and back today, seemed like an odd use for it but given the timing of this service, I assume this is using a set that would otherwise be sat at old oak common after an early morning trip?

This looks frighteningly similar to the previous incident

9  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Signalling & Services Between Paddington & Reading Not Fit For Purpose on: August 19, 2015, 12:46:34
I think that is being rather unfair to HEX as they are as much at the mercy of Network Rail as FGW (First Great Western) are. Other than take on the infrastructure themselves what else can they do? Both FGW and HEX are bound by the fragmented rail system we now find ourselves in today.

In my opinion its the whole fragmented rail system that is not fit for purpose.
10  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Congestion for the Langley Station area on: July 03, 2015, 23:15:56
Agreed, but still think its wrong she is sighting rail congestion as a reason for opposing the move. I can't see the depot having an advese effect on TV services
11  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Congestion for the Langley Station area on: July 03, 2015, 19:56:04
I norticed that my local MP (Member of Parliament) has raised concerns about the additional railway traffic generated by moving the depot on Twitter.

Very generic statment considering most empty coaching stock moves are early in the morning or late at night when there is less passenger traffic on the railway anyway. Unlike FGW (First Great Western) the service pattern for HEX is fairly constant through the day requiring minimal trips in and out of the depot during peak hours. Separating the HEX and FGW depots should also reduce some of the congestion that does happen late at night, often seen a number of FGW and HEX units queing up to get into old oak common along the carriage rception lines.
12  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Would it be realistic to renationalise the railways? - BBC News Magazine on: March 04, 2015, 08:27:54
I assume that DOR has now been effectively wrapped up or merged into the new franchise. Even if DOR were allowed to bid for another franchise, surely the people behind DOR have now moved on or been placed elsewhere?
13  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: How many stations have you used in the past 2 months? on: January 27, 2015, 16:33:13
17 in the last two months, here is my list:

Egham, Addlestone, Weybridge, Datchet, Reading, Stonehouse, Langley, Slough, Windsor & E C, Windsor & E R, Heathrow T5, Heathrow CTA (Compulsory Ticket Area), Paddington, Waterloo, London Euston, Edinburgh Waverley & Coventry.

I do use the train most days to and from work, but that's only 2 of the above, the other 15 have all been for leisure.
14  All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Re: What rights do you have(refers to unable to get a bike off of an HST) on: November 16, 2014, 11:04:22
There is an odd situation at slough where you can put your bike in the TSG heading towards reading but you have to use a vestibule if you are coming from reading as the TSG is not platformed. I suspect this has caught a few people out who are not familiar it.

I belive the HST (High Speed Train)'s always stop in the same place as there is a signal at the end of the platform.
15  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Crossrail to replace Heathrow Express services to Heathrow - ongoing discussion on: November 10, 2014, 11:31:16
However, I suspect HEx will see the writing on the wall before then, and may choose to enter a negotiation with DfT» (Department for Transport - about) to sell their paths once Crossrail opens, as they may find their operation is suddenly much less profitable.

I think they already do, hence this press release:
