It reminds me of a drawing of a modern signalling control centre with consoles and screens and off to the left there is a sign which reads, "In case of emergency, break glass". And there visible, behind a glass door, is a full manual lever frame and block instruments.

AFAIK▸ , Weddings used to be only permitted in suitable and registered premises, but these days can be performed anywhere provided that a suitably qualified person such as a priest or registrar officiates. A railway chaplain presumably satisfies that requirement. I think that the captain of a ship is also allowed to perform a marriage.
Thanks! I shall re-propose this to our railway management team, quoting the original BBC» article.

I suggested the possibility of weddings on our heritage railway but was told it required a fixed licensed premises open to the general public, for weddings are a public event. Maybe they have changed the law.

Journey by Journey / London to Didcot, Oxford and Banbury / Re: Disabled access at Cholsey: time for a campaign!

The irony about Cholsey is that Platform 4 on the Up Relief is near level access with the ramp to the station carpark but no doubt there will be some provision that prevents this easy fix. If it was, a wheelchair bound person or person with mobility issues could enter the London bound platform; and even if they wanted to travel to Didcot and beyond they could travel via Goring and Streatley and use the lifts there to access the correct platform for their onward journey.

Interesting non-use of tail lamps
There'd be a few Form-1s flying around if the DI had noticed. I've got a sectional appendix and can't see any tail-lamp exemption (I don't think there were any on the Western, anywhere). Mind you, Bradpole Crossing doesn't get a mention, either. Which is odd, as there should be an instruction for traincrew to work the gates
Local instruction perhaps as its a single vehicle and can't be divided?

All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: London Day Travelcards

I am planning to travel between Basingstoke and London Waterloo several times in one day, would I be able to use a London day travelcard for this? If you plan to make the journey 3 times or more, a weekly season ticket will be your cheapest option. Ticket only to Waterloo and use your Oyster▸ or debit card for the Underground/bus journeys to benefit from daily capping.

Also, was it BR▸ that sold circular tour tickets via that line and back along the North Wales Coast, or was it a train that actually ran right round, and marketed as such? I think you are referring to the 'Radio Tours' that ran in summer from the North Wales resorts. The 'Radio' was a running commentary. I think they ran Rhyl, Corwen, Barmouth, Afon Wen, Bangor, Rhyl. Would loved to have taken one.

Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: South Wales local services - Pembroke, Fishguard, Swanline, etc.

A curious little fact I have just come across in the June 1941 issue of the Railway Magazine (p. 244) regarding the railway at Fishguard. Apparently the last mile of the railway to the port was jointly owned by the GWR▸ and the Great Southern Railway of Ireland through the Fishguard and Rosslare Railways and Harbour Company. I never knew that even tiny bit of the British mainland system had an Irish owner.
I wonder if or when this arrangement was untangled.
