One out of action due sheared gearbox on 1B51 Paddington to Swansea at Severn Tunnel Jn which resulted Power Car being hauled to PM during the night on skates.

A problem like this would not take a set out of use as a spare power car would be utilised asap

Edit note: Quote marks fixed, for clarity. CfN.

Sunday working is paid at time and a quarter, whilst all other overtime is time , which some people feel  isn't worthwhile
3  All across the Great Western territory / Looking forward - after Coronavirus to 2045 / Re: Potential industrial action over IEP introduction on: July 01, 2015, 07:13:16
not sure there are any legal regulations. one of the factors of this dispute centres around safety of the platform train interface, in the present proposal the Driver will have full control of opening and closing the doors and ensuring the train is safely clear of the platform by the use of in cab cctv, whilst also ensuring that he or she concentrates on the actual task of train driving.
At present safety of the platform train interface is under the auspices of the guard and station staff at manned stations and guard at un manned stations.
The present proposal states that a guard will be provided for and in customer service role, with some of the recent sad accidents of people being pulled under trains departing stations is this new proposal the safest option

Virgin West Coast have stated that they are to provide a shop type mini buffet on there version of IEP (Intercity Express Program / Project.), and the safety duties of the guard will remain

9  All across the Great Western territory / Smoke and Mirrors / Re: Dry toilets, oh the mess! on: August 15, 2013, 19:11:34
The capacity of the roof tank is approx. 160 Gallons, toilets do run dry but its not as often as you may think , one possible reason is the toilet flush control looks like one of those modern wave your hands in front button when what you have to do is actually press the button hard, people wave there hands in front the toilet doesn't flush and they assume there is no water left.
exactly the same situation occurs with the taps, people wave there hands under the tap when you need to hold you hand steady under it...I am not saying there aren't dry toilets and faulty taps but I reckon 75% of so called faults are due to the above

11  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Class 180s return to the Cotswolds on: December 02, 2012, 13:38:26
from what i can acertain not sure of unit numbers...  one set has had a bit of an engine fire, another is still being fixed after a fatality, with another presumably on exam, also with such a small class the spares situation is always challenging
12  All across the Great Western territory / Looking forward - after Coronavirus to 2045 / Re: Intercity Express Programme (IEP) - ongoing discussion on: September 10, 2012, 09:59:27
partly right the ECML (East Coast Main Line) power cars did receive upgraded electronic and wheelslip equipment and FGW (First Great Western) have 2 of these powercars 43053 is one of them, although every Power car fitted with an MTU (Motor Traction Unit) Engine is fitted with a uprated VOITH Cooler Group as this is what mtu specified as being compatable with there engine

14  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Cleaners to be balloted on train strike - August 2012 on: August 25, 2012, 09:42:50
no one has mentioned but a proportion of FGW (First Great Western) Cleaners are directly employed by FGW and nothing to do with Mitie, theses tend to be the overnight cleaners on depot and some of the turnaround cleaners at Stations
15  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol connections: Metro, Bus Rapid Transit, PTE, ITA and local councils - discussion on: August 19, 2012, 11:33:12
the line beyond Avonmouth provides a valuable service to an area badly served by other public transport, St Andrews Road has a much increased footfall of workers making there way to work on the local industrial estates , and its now not unsual to have 30 people waiting to join the Train at Severn Beach...
