Yes that has certainly been an issue.

Sort of understandable when first starting out on a journey but there should be a routine that someone (train manager?) checks the screens and advises control if they are wrong.

I believe a system is being/has been rolled out that allows all TMs(resolve) to update formation information of their train as needed. Hopefully as this is more often utilised information will improve in quality.

I had my first “long haul” 802 journey on Saturday 13th, Penzance to Swindon around the houses due to the Bath closure. It was formed of 2x5 with my reservation in coach B (second from the rear).

Some observations:

The electronic reservations were working with the coach lit up like a Christmas tree and kept track and updated throughout the journey.
After Penzance the first station to platform the whole train was Plymouth.
The trolley appeared every hour or so and seemed well stocked.
One of the toilets seemed to be locked out of use but luckily managed to find another one nearby.
The Diesel engine mounting seems to need some attention, it didn’t sound healthy when turning.
The seats seem to be the “newer” ones and my back survived the 5 and a half hour journey intact.
The sets seemed more than capable of keeping time and didn’t seem to struggle at all.
To top it all off we even changed over to electric “in flight” while passing through Bristol parkway.

Very impressed overall, still work to perfect them but no doubt they’ll be fine in the long term.

It was a great day out and have to agree with BNM about the wind!

Yesterday (Sunday, 31/01/2019) 1A10 (early morning up Weston-Super-Mare/Bristol service) was formed of a 9 car IET (Intercity Express Train) which makes me think my last scheduled/planned HST (High Speed Train) trip has come and gone.  Undecided

The link mentions Swindon Station Redevelopment - anyone know what this might be be about?

There has been rumours/plans/mumbles about doing up the old Signal Point offices in to something more useful (apartments/flats). Not sure exactly where that stands though.

Unable to make it unfortunately due to volunteering at Swindon Panel in Didcot. If anyone does drop by feel free to say hello.  Grin

I must confess I have come to prefer the trolley service and I don’t miss the buffet car.

Controversial for some.  Tongue Grin

A good review though. Interesting point about the practicalities of 2x5 vs 9.

More shorties running again today...beware.

One of the more noticeable ones being the 0712 Taunton to Paddington via Bristol. I believe it’s the first off peak towards London. Full and standing from Bristol, reportedly.
24  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Orange Zones - Swindon on: January 20, 2019, 19:02:51
I'm not sure if its related to the introduction of the zones but the screens at Swindon have started showing "last reports" such as "This train is currently between Chippenham and Swindon".

Perhaps it is all part of a CIS (Customer Information System) upgrade?
25  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Infrastructure problems in Thames Valley causing disruption elsewhere - ongoing, since Oct 2014 on: January 12, 2019, 19:25:48
Not sure if its worth mentioning but there were some, somewhat significant, issues at Didcot East Junction today. Lots of trains queuing and several XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) services passing through platform 1 at Didcot Parkway and reversing at Foxall Junction via the West Curve.

ODD: I looked on opentraintimes, was listed as a HST (High Speed Train).

That would be the timing. All high speed services are currently timed as HSTs.

There was a 9 coach HST going around at some point, though.

You are probably right tomL ... and as it's a Saturday it's the quietest day of the week on the Coffee Shop too, so probably not as many people who get involved in this sort of thing around.

Go on - put us out of our misery!

7. Swindon. (XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) diversions put the Edinburgh there).

...Is it a weekday meeting? (Although you could argue Taxi is the only method that isn't really affected by 'weekend non-working').  Grin
