The HST (High Speed Train) worked 1A81 Penzance - Paddington, so the two would have met at Plymouth on platforms 7 and 8!

Found it!

Having seen it the other day - looks nice, but I'll not be chasing it around!

Can anyone tell me where this photo was taken.   Clue - the gentleman in the kilt is Graham from Dalmally Station - http://www.visitscotland.com/info/see-do/heartfelt-by-liz-p996051 - who has done a wonderful job on the restoration and was a well deserved ACoRP (Association of Community Rail Partnerships) awards winner http://www.acorp.uk.com/Assets/CRA%202015/AcorpWinnerLo-res.pdf (third place in the "Most enhanced stations buildings" section).

Torquay - or is that too obvious..?

I see there are also provisional times published for another Cotswold Explorer this Saturday (3 Oct):

http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t15/t1003a.htm

Should be a nice day on Saturday so I'll be at my usual lineside spot for that one, or I might head over to Sapperton to watch a bit of smoke on the climb!

Graham - I guess Melksham has just been unlucky with that gauging cancellation although, overall, 2015 has been a bit bleak for heritage runs following the fallout from the Wootton Bassett Junction SPAD (Signal Passed At Danger).
Unfortunately this tour was diesel-hauled (class 47) due to 4965 Rood Ashton Hall failing a FTR (Fitness To Run) exam the previous evening. The loco originally rostered had been 5043 Earl of Mount Edgumbe, but is currently under repair.
It has been a terrible year for steam on the mainline as a look at http://uksteam.info/tours/trs15.htm will show, much of it following the Wootton Bassett SPAD in March, as well as loco unavailability, gauging, GWML (Great Western Main Line) electrification, pathing issues etc etc..

Travelled on the green set on Friday - very clean and comfortable. The green/grey interior is pleasant too. As far as the outside goes the diagonal stripe was virtually invisible unless you look for it..

Didcot still has the enormous 'f' on the glass above the main entrance doors, despite going green from paint. Plus a welcome sign from FGW (First Great Western).
I see Didcot still has blue seats on platforms, although much green paint has been applied to buildings. Could be a slow transition..

Does anyone know when or if the green HST (High Speed Train)/Turbos/Sleeper set will be at Paddington on Saturday? If not is there a way I can find out?
Thanks
I believe the green HST is working Padd - Swansea tonight, so good chance it will return on Saturday at some point, assuming it is in service.

Hi Paul,
Many thanks for your comprehensive and knowledgable reply - most helpful!

I suppose my question relates to buy-on-the-day tickets 'in advance' as an alternative to queuing at a ticket office. At my home station (Swindon), there is a TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) (often a queue at busy times). There is also a separate machine (no queue!) for the collection of pre-booked/pre-paid  tickets, which I would like to use, but not be tied to a particular seat or train, dependant on time of day of course.

I will give it a go on my next journey!

Rob

Having only bought tickets at a TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) or from a human being, how do pre-booked tickets work - do you have to purchase a specific seat on a specific train? And how do you obtain tickets from the machine? Also what if the machine is out of order?
Thanks in advance!

They won't tell you that!

^7.5m according to the Maidenhead advertiser.
Is the Maidenhead Advertiser referring to the ^7.5billion mentioned in the GWR (Great Western Railway) press release?

The answer to my own question would appear to be yes if this is said article:
