You could use the excuse it was in the Hungerford sanitary district (c. 1872) which extended over the county boundary to include Bedwyn!
2  All across the Great Western territory / Active travel: Cyclists and walkers, including how the railways deal with them / Re: Difficult to argue with e-bike/scooter rules? on: April 10, 2024, 07:00:05
I must admit that my initial concern was that it appeared that the bike was about three steps from being able to board a train. Had it done so the result would not have been so photogenic.

This happening in a train or bus doesn't really bear thinking about https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-london-68744317

E-bike and e-scooter fires are the fastest-growing fire risk in London: statistics indicate there have been at least 40 this year.

I don't feel the current situation is going to change soon

https://road.cc/content/news/cycling-tunnel-closed-again-due-flooding-307683

Am interested how they managed to do it despite English Nature Natural England shouting BATS (as opposed to Great Crested Newts). Another former railway tunnel in Wales has gone ahead despite the Welsh equivalent playing the bats card, although it is shut part of the year during the bat breeding season.

The South Downs National Park are going through all sorts of contortions over the tunnels on the Chichester - Midhurst line, alternative suggestions hardly suitable for manual wheelchair users who are not paralympians. Is it a case that BANES was prepared to face down English Nature and a National Park feel they can't.

UPDATE: correct name of quango

Folkestone Warren being beneath a huge splay of thoroughly incompetent 'cliff' across which the railway built one of the two lines to Dover, the line being closed by a landslip of nightmarish proportions during WW1

https://www.networkrail.co.uk/stories/the-great-fall-historic-landslip-images-resurface/

Puts our current landslides in perspective.

And if you want a view on how to "control" the problem https://blogs.agu.org/landslideblog/2016/12/21/folkestone-warren/

For those who are interested it is well documented.

On yer bike - EU» (European Union - about) looks to boost cycling

This of course does not apply to us because we are no longer part of this club.

Although lots of people might agree with

train has had all of its passenger seats ripped out so that it can be transformed into a dedicated cargo freight train and loaded up with industry-standard cargo cages.

Hasn't something similar been reported before on the forum.

as a humble traveller more trains and less overcrowding will be welcome.
