I wouldn't be happy with a blanket ban. I like to relax with a can or two of cider or IPA on evening journeys from the coast back to Woking or Clapham Junction. I don't recall seeing any bad behaviour on these trains.

Also, PlusBus is not available as an E ticket, so your train & bus tickets will be click and collect.

Hopefully PlusBus will be available in digital format soon. The following articles are from March / April last year.

First Bus & GWR (Great Western Railway) launched a plusbus E ticket in Weston-Super-Mare last year.

And a national launch was to have taken place from Summer 2022. I don't know why that didn't happen.

Probably be more concerned if the announcement was: "If there is a driver on the train....

I did have the announcement last week "If there is a guard on the train..." That was from Waterloo platform staff using the trains PA (Public Address) about 5 minutes before departure. The train left on time, presumably with the guard.

I prefer an airline seat. My legs have more space. Sitting opposite other people, I often have to fold my legs underneath my seat.

No SWR» (South Western Railway - about) trains for me today at Bookham. NO RRBs (Rail Replacement Bus) were shown on the planner either. On the plus side, next week we get twice as many trains as usual. Two trains an hour instead of one, although the first train to Waterloo is 20 minutes later than the one I would normally get.

Not a great journey. Standing all the way this morning. I normally get a near empty train which fills up by Ewell West. This evening I stood most of the way from Waterloo. I was going to get the next one until I discovered it had been cancelled. I suspect tomorrow may be worse as Mondays and Fridays are normally not as busy.

What an appalling article!

Unfortunately that is what local journalism has become. Especially Reach titles.

Staff anywhere that accepts tickets on smartcards are already meant to have devices that can read them in great detail, otherwise you're left looking at a piece of plastic.
Which is how I get through the barriers at Epsom. SWR» (South Western Railway - about) smartcards should be able to be read at this Southern station but are rejected. The barrier staff know this so I show them my smartcard to get through. They have never read it electronically though. Oddly, the barriers at nearby Leatherhead, another Southern station will read my smartcard.

In early 2019 SWR confirmed to me that taking a break of journey using my season ticket at Epsom was valid and that "interoperability" would take place later that year meaning that I should then have no further problems.

Almost four years later, nothings happened and my smartcard still gets rejected.  Sad

then walked along the South Bank past the Covid memorial wall and County Hall to Hungerford Bridge - though I think that has a new name now?

The rail bridge is still called Hungerford Bridge but the two recent footbridges (2002) either side are both called the Golden Jubilee Bridges. I walk over both footbridges most weekdays but use the rail bridge when the weather is against me. (SouthEastern: Waterloo East <=> Charing Cross).
43  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Progress of shift from paper to smart tickets - RDG on: November 22, 2022, 20:32:52
Oh, sorry to hear that. GWR (Great Western Railway) tickets page suggests that it does seem possible to get what I think you want. Away from London & TfL» (Transport for London - about) stations you would use the validator or ticket gates at a nominated station to load the ticket to your GWR Touch smartcard. I don't know if it works the same inside London.

See the attached screenshot. The £2164 price quoted is just West Drayton to Paddington without travelcard. The £2812 is a zones 1-6 travelcard. I also played around with Hayes (Zones 1-5) and Ealing Broadway (Zones 1-3).

Busier motorways, more lost customers and less revenue for the railways.

I see ASLEF» (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen - about)'s strike on Saturday now affects "only" 11 train companies. Not sure who's dropped out.

London Overground.

What about the strike on Saturday?
Saturday's strike, called by the Aslef union over pay, involves train drivers working for:

Avanti West Coast - no services on the day
Chiltern Railways - no services
CrossCountry - no services
East Midlands Railway - no services
Great Western Railway - an "extremely limited" service
Greater Anglia - "heavily reduced" service
London North Eastern Railway - "limited" service
Northern Trains - no services
Southeastern - no services
Transpennine Express - "very limited" service
West Midlands Trains - no services
There may also be disruption on the days before and after the strike day.

Strike action at London Overground - which had been expected on Saturday - has been suspended while union members consider a new pay offer.

S that a railway bridge though?

An educated guess - does the main Belfast to Dublin railway run over the top of it?

There is a railway over the bridge. I didn't look to see where it goes. Having looked on Streetview just now I see that the incident seems to have taken place in 2021 and the views were replaced in 2021. This seems to be the location. https://goo.gl/maps/ZpCebNDW4NstQQKC7
