Haven't a clue about the remaining pic but there's building work going on. So going to take a random stab at London Bridge. I'm sure there's lots of other stations having work done at the moment but London Bridge is the only one I can think of.

Its a tug. Because these new trains are unable to reverse, a tug has to be used to push it onto the apron in preparation for take off.  Huh

Oh hang on, I might have got a bit confused there. Grin

It could also be interpreted that "Any Permitted" means that any route is permitted. i.e. doesn't matter how you get to your destination, there are no restrictions.

Now that's not the actual meaning but I expect large numbers of passengers will see that on their tickets and believe that to be the case.
874  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: CrossCountry HST failure, Newquay 29th May 2016 on: June 02, 2016, 21:43:27
The Sunday morning Newquay XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) HST (High Speed Train) has a 100% failure rate this year! The middle week of the summer it was voyagered due to engineering works sonewhere

Summer hasn't started yet. It is still Spring. The Middle week of Summer will be around the second week in August I think. Smiley

Several hundred percent multiplied by zero still equals zero I'm afraid. Sad
876  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Coombe Junction - passenger numbers and platform facilities - ongoing discussion on: May 17, 2016, 20:35:33

Cannot decide if you are jesting!
But if you are not, then this is the freight connection to Moorswater which is protected from the passenger section at Coombe by a trap point (as pictured).

Ah, Ok. I had to look up the meaning of  trap points. I now see that the points in the photo are deliberately set to derail a train and not accidentally as I first assumed.

I've now uploaded my photos to Flickr.

Not knowing the area, I do hope that your photo at the link below is of a disused part of the  track. Looks a bit dangerous / pointless to me.  Wink

878  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: New Open Franchise for East Coast on: May 13, 2016, 22:36:20
Todays Metro carried a story about First Group replacing Virgin East Coast in 2019. From what I'm reading here that's not necessarily true. It did seem odd at the time of reading that a franchise that has only been running a year or so would be up for grabs so soon.

As is often the case what you see in the printed Metro newspaper doesn't appear in the online version so I can't provide a link unfortunately.

There was a similar incident in the same event last year

This is an old thread from last year and refers to the same incident. Good to see the video again.
881  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Fares Taplow Weymouth on: April 30, 2016, 14:37:29
The GWR (Great Western Railway) site shows 3 morning journeys available for ^8.70 at 0949, 1018 and 1149. GWR to Reading, XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) to Winchester / Bournemouth and SWT (South West Trains) to Weymouth.
882  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Great Western Railway Ticket Sale is now on - 300,000 cheap tickets available on: April 24, 2016, 23:22:02
In the airline seats in Standard Class there is a single socket between the seat backs in front of you, down at shin level. This one should take most all plugs.

So one socket between 2 people eh? I'll just have to hope whoever sits next to me doesn't want to use it as well. Oh well sleep is also an option. Grin

I've taken advantage of this offer. ^18 each way Paddington to Penzance in May. It's my first time there and my first visit to Cornwall since I was a child in the 70's. I have a vague memory of going to Newquay by Merrymaker train, sitting on the beach and opening the wicker basket full of homing pigeons that we'd brought with us. Only a few hours later it was time to go back to the station. I think all or all but one of the pigeons arrived back in my dads uncles pigeon loft.

I remember reading some time ago that the HST (High Speed Train)'s had power sockets I could use. Are they still there and individual to each seat? I know my tablet will run out of charge on a 5 hour+ journey.
884  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: Paddington Station^s new ticket hall delights 175th customer on: April 22, 2016, 23:33:18
I remember the old Paddington Thames Valley ticket office, which was a sort of kiosk with Ollie inside it ...  Wink Cheesy Grin

Me too. Bought many annual season tickets there. No idea if I ever saw Ollie though.
885  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Bus windows. Why is the glass manufacturer's legend often circled in pen? on: April 22, 2016, 23:27:11
Isn't it done for the Certificate of Fitness exam? I presume it's an easy visual proof that every window has been checked.

Yes. I've seen this question somewhere else a few years ago and this was the agreed answer. Its circled so that the inspectors/examiners can easily locate it. It's not always in the same position in every pane. Could be bottom left / right, top etc especially if the glass has been replaced at some point.
