1  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Thanks for all the fish on: August 25, 2008, 19:35:16
Good evening one and all.

My subject title is representative of my thoughts at this current time.

So, for now, thanks for all the fish and goodbye!
2  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Class 142 Pacers in service on Devon branch lines, 2007 to 2011 - merged topic on: August 24, 2008, 23:58:41
As can I, however I quite agree that the cost of doing so is too prohibitive as FGW (First Great Western) have a too high premium to pay back to the govt.

I haven't travelled that much too recently - been working on projects instead Tongue

In true retaliation I sat in the luggage rack.
Grin Grin

Should have done it the proper way, and slept in the luggage rack over the seats!  Tongue
6  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Passenger's anger as train ticket office shuts on: August 24, 2008, 14:38:49
I'm hedging bets on it being the 0940 Yatton to London Paddington (0738 from Paignton). This train has a 3 minute wait at Bristol TM(resolve) so could well have been 1 minute early. All other possible journies have a connection and are of 14 minutes or longer.

Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin is a very different case to all of the other mentioned stock. They had CDL (Central Door Locking) from their work with LUL (London Underground Ltd), and were proven to work for many years on the Northern Line. All the other lines are purely segregated lines (single line) and no other stock operates on them while the Mk1 units are in operation.

Unless you can guarantee nothing else on the line will operate other than the 101s, then nope - you cannae run them.

Knowing the papers, they've probably got some facts wrong.

Could it in fact have been the SAME train...?

I saw what was posted before you deleted it all, Graham. I'm simply taking a neutral view on it.

There was no intention for the post ... just as a generally annoying thing to wind up the moderators! You see, I know stuff. Wink

I'm not sure how you can be so certain you saw all of the posts, Tom, and how you can be fully aware of the intention of each of them.  Perhaps you had better explain further.
You have a PM (that you haven't replied to).

You never know with odd faults.

I'm not familiar with the track layout, but I suspect now it was probably an interlocking fault that rectified itself.
12  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: FGW may get "NEW" stock for Bristol area on: August 23, 2008, 23:31:02
The HSTs (High Speed Train) are owned by First Group as opposed to First Great Western, as a strategic investment AFAIK (as far as I know). The 143s are a bit cheap so the DfT» (Department for Transport - about)/SRA» (Strategic Rail Authority - about) needn't get involved on that one.
13  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: FGW may get "NEW" stock for Bristol area on: August 23, 2008, 23:08:29
It is impossible to have any TOC (Train Operating Company) make a reasonable investment now.

The government (hello if you're reading this Brown, Winsor) are stupid prats who are just desperate for stupid amounts of cash in return for commercial operators running the railways on their behalf, when they basically specify timetables, rolling stock and regulate most of the fares.
14  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: FGW may get "NEW" stock for Bristol area on: August 23, 2008, 22:15:10
I can't identify it as it's mainly built into the franchise contracts which are 'commercially sensitive'. Likewise, the cost of new trains would be too limiting for FGW (First Great Western) to do it upon their own accord (^750,000 to ^1 million per CARRIAGE).
