I have had my ticket checked on First Kernow bus, not often but it has happened.

At Penryn when the locals complained about the noise from trains waiting to pass on the single line they built a huge great wooden fence/wall to protect the houses.

I was very surprised of the ride on a non stop run from Bristol to Reading on Easter Saturday. When we got under the wires at Parkway and speeded up the whole train rattled and rolled in a way that I found unbelievable for a so called modern train. Really pleased to get off.

You are right. I cannot stand all the unnecessary automatic announcements and drive long distance trips now and in Cornwall get the bus.

Expect the next two trains will be 5 car.

Two 5 cars is ludicrous with 2 extra cabs and 2 sets of catering taking up vast amounts of unused space plus the extra crew and no connection between the sets.

I had a theoretical First class seat on the 1230 from Reading on Saturday 15th April. It arrived as a 5 car unit with standing passengers and a platform load to collect.
I managed to find space to stand until Exeter where I got a seat. The air con was on the blink and the train was baking. We picked up a Hitachi fitter to sort it vaguely.

At Plymouth where the train emptied we joined with difficulty to another unit. That made the train 10 cars through Cornwall and 20 minute plus late.
This meant all the branch connections were missed and Newquay passengers were advised to get off at St. Austell and get a service bus.

By now most of the passengers where in the rear unit which meant they all had to move forward at the short platforms to alight making the train later and later.
At Truro there were two cars of passengers with luggage standing in the aisle to get off. I had to think what would happen in an emergency?

I know these units are appalling but worse when Hitachi cannot supply trains of the correct length to fulfil their contract where are GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) as the service provider?

Standing up for that distance makes you realise how rough riding they are and the whines and bangs from underneath provide a background din.

I felt very sorry for the staff who had to front for the company and no sign of any GWR management.

I don't think myself and many others will use the train to go to London again until Hitachi and GWR get their act together which is a shame as I have previously always enjoyed the trip dozens of times. Everything seems to have gone rapidly down hill since these rattletrap uncomfortable Hitachi units were introduced.

Are these trains fit for anything?

I do not see how changing this timing would save the council any money. I would use the bus just as much but later. At the moment I like to go out earlier because very often the early buses are quieter. After 0930 the buses are full with college students on there way to Truro.

In Cornwall the any bus any operator anywhere adult all day ticket is £5 and family £10.

Shows the state our railways are in. Too much talk and not enough practical people.

I still cannot see the point of Falmouth to Newquay as is such a roundabout route that the bus beats it. I can see the need of improvements on the Newquay branch but I think the delays introduced to the present excellent Truro to Falmouth service would be a great risk to reliability. Even Newquay to Truro would not be very quick.
