1  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: TransWilts Community Rail Partnership - public launch in Trowbridge, 26/3/2010 on: March 26, 2010, 07:12:16
Thanks Chris! Just noticed on my map I missed out the connection between Swindon and Newport/Cardiff - d'oh!
Is anyone arriving at Trowbridge a little early? As I work there I will be hanging around for over an hour waiting for the event to start.
2  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: TransWilts Community Rail Partnership - public launch in Trowbridge, 26/3/2010 on: March 23, 2010, 11:03:03
I'm happy to say that I will definitely be attending as I strongly support the partnership. It will be nice to see some people from here again too, to hopefully discuss ideas and thoughts about the TransWilts line.
3  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: SVB line passengers complain they cannot pay fares (29/01/2010) on: March 15, 2010, 18:51:44
How about difficult people who choose a station outside the SB (Signal Box) line? Like I would choose Oldfield Park Wink Great idea though. Something has to be done, and that seems by far the best option.
4  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Information Point at Redland: What has happened to it? on: March 14, 2010, 21:14:19
Perhaps this might be a lesson to the designers of these displays that having a tracking device fitted could be a pretty good idea - can't imagine they are particularly expensive these days.

I agree with Graz, the orange LED display would have been more suitable and probably less prone to damage/theft.  The station already had an emergency button, so this could have been left in place and perhaps given a lick of paint.

Definitely, if the LED displays were hanging from the station canopy (at Redland), or high poles where people couldn't get to them, etc! And they would also be easier to see - those little screens aren't particularly easy to see in sunlight.

I went with my friend up to Severn Beach saturday and noticed the ones at Montpelier and Redland both were just the cases with tape over them. As far as customer information screens, I would have preferred the orange/black LED displays like South West trains have all over small stations but I definitely think the emergency button is useful (except when kids play with it, which I have seen happen.)

CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision) must be implemented at these stations!

With some of the "people" I've seen guards have to deal with, I welcome this idea.
7  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bus vs Train vs Walking on: December 08, 2009, 15:47:40
I guess this begs another question- looking at the recent weather, do you really want to be tramping through Bristol in the pouring rain?  Grin

(In summer, I honestly think the walk would be best!)
8  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Filton - time to drop Abbey Wood on: December 08, 2009, 15:44:59
Well if you go to Filton Abbey Wood you'll see lots of signs to the MOD buildings, and the station itself is a good 5 mins walk up from the main Filton road. But I agree, there's really no need for it. It makes the name too long and confusing with other places (The amount of times I've heard it called Filton ABBOTT wood...)
9  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: Melksham station on: December 08, 2009, 15:29:57
Wow, this is good news! I hope the first of many important steps towards the service everyone is waiting for along the line. It's nice also to see some optimism from the council and good press in regards to service levels.
10  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: FGW serves Dean and Mottisfont / Dunbridge again on: December 08, 2009, 15:28:03
It also happened on the 07:26 from Bath Spa to Portsmouth Harbour today. All seemed to be fine, and it's nice to see the extra station stops didn't cause much of a delay by the end of the journey.

Grin People from Bradford-on-Avon who would like to travel on this train will need to spend 20 minutes walking along the canal to Avoncliff!
12  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: Transwilts Back? on: October 10, 2009, 14:14:11
This seems like the perfect peak-time service! If only it happened every monday to friday.
13  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: How NOT to do it ! on: October 10, 2009, 14:11:15
Unfortunately this kind of stupidness happens sometimes at Bath Spa too. If a high speed train is running just a few minutes late ahead of the local Great Malvern train, the heaving crowds all jam into the local train without the staff at Bath Spa giving a hoot. They take bikes and all, and of course standing room only, the people at Oldfield Park and Keynsham don't stand much chance.

What should happen is on health and safety grounds, the staff should stop everyone going to Bristol Temple Meads from boarding, by checking tickets on entry, with only those going to Oldfield Park, Keynsham, and stations towards Great Malvern. At the very least, they could make an announcement asking passengers to only board if traveling to Oldfield Park and Keynsham. To my amazement this actually happened once, and unsurprisingly seats were free for Oldfield park and Keynsham passengers.

In your case moonrakerz I'm afraid it's another example of staff not being bothered. It would not have been much effort to prevent anyone from boarding on health and safety grounds if the SWT (South West Trains) was a few minutes behind. The delayed FGW (First Great Western) could also have left much quicker, and people would have had a much more comfortable ride being only a few minutes more late.

I'm afraid it seems you always have to assume passengers have NO common sense whatsoever- I'm surprised some of them even manage to get onto the right platform!
14  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Penalty Fares- do they apply any longer? on: August 18, 2009, 16:50:43
What is now the stance for Penalty Fares from unstaffed stations? A few days ago some desperate lowlifes vandalised the ticket machine at oldfield park to steal the notes, and now there's no way of buying tickets there, but the "warning!" posters remain.

(I know the stations which have working machines between Bristol and Westbury are now only Bristol TM(resolve), Bath spa, Bradford on avon, and Westbury. Freshford and Avoncliff didn't originally have one.)

At least there is some justice left. Thanks for posting Lee. (Especially considering I commute to Trowbridge now!)
