No 1 is Taunton, just east of the station
2  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Loss of refreshment facilities at stations on: October 12, 2021, 11:21:00 pm
Liskeard struggled on part way through covid but has now closed down- a pity as they did a good trade. At least you could get a  great bacon sandwich and coffee before getting on a London train with near  non existant trolley service ( AND NO BACON ROLLS!!!)
3  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Okehampton on: October 12, 2021, 11:15:43 pm
I am looking forward to being on that first train! I was on the last train in 1972 before closure, so there is a nice symmetry  for me.
4  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR IET refreshment trolley on: October 11, 2021, 10:27:56 am
Some TOCs (Train Operating Company) even manage to have sandwiches, bacon rolls and an app to order a delivery to be made to your seat.
5  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR IET refreshment trolley on: October 10, 2021, 10:11:56 pm
The trolley service is getting worse and worse. On my last journey from Paddington, no trolley appeared for an hour and a half, and that was the only showing on a four hour journey. On my last three journeys from Liskeard to Exeter, I have not seen a trolley once, and thats on an hour and a half journey. Basically there is no way of banking on getting any refreshment on an IET (Intercity Express Train) in my experience. The "Service" is an utter disgrace.
6  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: A home for Great British Railways on: October 08, 2021, 01:12:12 pm
I think they should locate to somewhere that demonstrates the realities of present day long distance travel, somwhere with  travel on uncomfortable seats, awful trolley service and painfully slow stretches of track and the possibillity of winter storm damage. How about Plymouth?
7  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Named Trains on: September 23, 2021, 06:50:32 pm
Exactly, when did all the others get scrapped?
8  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Named Trains on: September 22, 2021, 05:38:52 pm
Pardon me if I have missed something that happened a while ago, but looking in detail and current timetables I noticed that all the named trains ( Cornish Riviera, Golden Hind, etc) with the exception of the Night Riviera seem to have vanished. When did this happen?
9  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: St Budeaux to stations to become 'major interchange' hub on: September 15, 2021, 02:23:28 pm
I am not sure that St Budeaux would provide much advantage over Plymouth main station as most bus routes go via the City  Centre and not much from St Budeaux.
10  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera on: September 14, 2021, 10:50:58 am
I suspect most sleeper passengers will be glad of the longer lie-in! I certainly would.
11  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Big train, small stationer on: September 14, 2021, 10:49:12 am
I think IETs (Intercity Express Train) have stopped at these local stations before, as they are sometimes used on Cornwall stopping services.
12  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: Lack of Common Sense? on: July 15, 2021, 02:46:31 pm
Its only for 6 days
13  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: Mask wearing on and after 19th July - your personal choice on: July 06, 2021, 11:25:28 am
I wont be wearing a mask. A double jabbed oldie  like me has little to fear, and incidentally the risk of  disease for an unjabbed 18 year is very low.
14  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Devon and Cornwall resignalling on: June 28, 2021, 12:10:00 pm
Don't let Mebyon Kernow hear that!
15  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: Mask wearing at stations - what have YOU noticed as you travel? on: June 28, 2021, 12:06:10 pm
You are entitled to remove your mask to eat or drink even in a "masked" area.
