Ill informed, or clueless security personnel are a menace.  Time spent arguing with you could have been much better spent, I'm sure.  Give some people a teeny bit of authority, and watch them take a mile

Best bet is to inform them, politely, that you are acting within the Law and carry on........................see what they do then ! Any physical attempt to interfere with what you are doing is common assault. IF they do call a real (Police) "Officer" - he would undoubtedly explain the Law to them  Smiley

Try using a different Browser - it's surprising how often that does the trick.

The impression that I got was that it was double headed to St Davids then T & T back to London. Is that a better configuration to get up the bank to Central ?
I was thinking of going up to Westbury White Horse on Sat morning.

Who decides the cleaning regime for the rolling stock ?  I have long thought that GWR (Great Western Railway) have paid less attention to the exterior of their trains than, say, SWR» (South Western Railway - about)/T. Here in Warminster the exteriors of the 158s and 159s passing through bear no comparison, whereas the interiors were fairly similar. I seem to recollect making a comment in an earlier thread that perhaps SWT (South West Trains) could put GWR's rolling stock through the carriage wash at Salisbury as they passed through ! I would say that both the light coloured liveries of SWR and SWT showed the dirt more easily than that of GWR, but GWR's rarely looked really clean.

To quote Oscar Wilde: "The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable".

The RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) versus Gulf oil money..................they deserve each other !

Whatever you think of RMT the P&O workers don't deserve this.

It is the sort of action by employers that makes unions to have the characteristics you so dislike in RMT. Look at early rail accident history and you will find ASLEF» (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen - about) fighting for its members against huge injustice from employers.

Perhaps you would like to read what I actually wrote - I did not say that the "P & O workers deserve this",  I said that the RMT "deserved" the P & O management - and vice versa. Both sides in this dispute are equally stupid and pig-headed.
Just where did I imply, let alone say, that that the RMT has characteristics that I "so dislike" ?? I said no such thing ! Neither did I make any comment on what I might "think" about the RMT (or P & O). My comment was deliberately totally neutral - I did not identify either the "Unspeakable" or the "Uneatable" to requote Mr Wilde. When I see a fence I sit on it..................

Perhaps the senior management of P & O decided after watching the recent antics of the RMT on the rail network that the only way to resolve the problem was to get their retaliation in first ? Or is there only one side of this dispute that is allowed to be put forward ?

209  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: etickets on: March 12, 2022, 09:31:33
The problem that led to my original query has now been resolved - but it must be said with no help whatsoever from GWR (Great Western Railway). It started off with a query from a friend in the USA (who is normally very complimentary about the British rail system) who was having troubles with the GWR App/website. His queries to the the GWR customer "service" system produced no helpful answers - hence my OP (Original Poster / topic starter) on this forum.
It is difficult enough to find up to date, correct information on the web anyway, but is it asking too much for a company to have correct and unambiguous information on their own website ?

There is an absolute direct contradiction on whether (or not) digital or paper copies of etickets are acceptable as a valid ticket.  The FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) say that etickets cannot be copied but the GWR email says the exact opposite ! It may be pedantic, but a "Barcode" is not a "QR (QR Code - Quick Response code) code", but GWR seem to thing that they are the same thing. My own tickets stored in the App contains a QR code - but the GWR email that confirmed my purchase of those tickets tells me to scan the barcode when I use the tickets.

The ticketing system is difficult enough without a TOC (Train Operating Company) seemingly doing its best to confuse would-be customers even further !
210  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / etickets on: March 11, 2022, 12:52:18
If I buy an eticket from the GWR (Great Western Railway) website it is "delivered" to the GWR App on my mobile. I also get a confirmatory email and a PDF of the ticket. IF the eticket doesn't get to my mobile App is the PDF useable as a valid ticket ?
I ask as the GWR website says that I cannot "print off" copies of the barcode as a back up.

Edit:  Elsewhere on the website  it does say that I can print it off ?? which do I believe ?
