This council video has 3 illustrations of a redeveloped Temple Meads at 0:53. https://youtu.be/XIk9bVXN2JM

Interestingly they all show the reinstatement of the spire. Artistic licence, or a real aspiration, do you reckon?

The 'Bristol Legible City' initiative was indeed ground-breaking, and has been emulated elsewhere because it did what it sets out to do very well. Details are here: https://www.bristollegiblecity.info/

The 'Legible City' maps are very much aimed at pedestrians, so they show bus stop locations but don't show bus routes - too much information can be as bad as not enough. Producing clear maps is not easy, and no map can show everything.

There was a Legible City exhibition at the Architecture Centre early this year, and there was a board there showing bus route map displays for use at bus stops. They were similar to the London ones, showing the different routes from the stop snaking off to the various destinations on a schematic map. But very much part of the Legible City system, using the same colour schemes, fonts and iconography.

However, it wasn't clear whether this was part of the original system that has been abandoned, or a new proposal, or what.

Go to Sheffield- Pacers operate Sheffield to Doncaster and Adwick stoppers and the Sheffield to Hull stoppers (not the fast services, they are cl 158). Some 150s make an appearance too. Doncaster to Scunthorpe stoppers are Pacers too. Enjoy while they last.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, I'll perhaps have a day out over Easter.

Best thing to do is to go to Cardiff Central and buy an Explore Cardiff and Valleys ticket (£13 for the day). Then go to platform 6/7 and wait until one pulls in and see where you end up.

It's possible to take buses between some of the outer termini (Rhymney-Merthyr, Merthyr-Aberdare, Aberdare-Llwynypia/Tonypandy-Bridgend, and Bargoed-Pontypridd are probably the most useful ones), but this will cost extra.

If you only want to do short rides (as far as Llanishen/Coryton/Radyr both ways/Eastbrook/Penarth), then the Explore the Capital ticket at £4.50 is a cheaper option.

Brilliant, this sounds great. Thanks!

Hello, I'd like to ride some Pacers before they all disappear. What are the best lines to find them, preferably within a day trip from Bristol?

Thanks!
6  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Transport Minister says Bristol's public transport system 'absolutely fantastic' on: February 17, 2019, 16:40:36
I don't live in Bristol (neither does Ms Ghani).  Would those of you who do agree with her assessment?

No, the Real Time Information system is next to useless, as highlighted in this blog post:
https://blog.scottlogic.com/2019/01/31/the-curious-case-of-disappeared-buses.html

There are basically three types of information it displays:
  • Where no information on a bus is available, it just displays timetabled times, so no better than a printed timetable.
  • When it has limited data, eg it knows a bus has left the depot, it shows pseudo-real times - resulting in the disappearing buses detailed in the post.
  • In the cases where it is actually tracking the location of the bus, it usually has a completely unrealistic idea of how long it will take it to travel between stops, resulting in the upward slopes on the charts. This is the most prevailant situation in my experience. I tend to use a rule of thumb that once the countdown gets below about 5 minutes you need to double the estimate, but it's not consistent.

Surely the simple solution would be to extend the route of the 71 from it's last stop at UWE to the P&R (Park and Ride). It looks like that would only add 5 minutes tops to the journey time of those people going from the P&R to Anchor Road.

Hello, is there a good reason the M3 doesn't do a loop of the city centre, following the route of the M2, before heading back north? Surely a fast bus between Temple Meads and UWE would be very beneficial and well used.
