Interesting to see the super fast to Parkway still serving Parkway ... my initial thought would have been to miss the stop there are suggest people to / from Parkway use a connection. Anyone from Paddington to Bristol best advised to catch the direct train and be slowed down at Reading, Didcot, Swindon, Chippenham and Bath Spa. 19:15 London Paddington to Weston-Super-Mare due 21:11
19:15 London Paddington to Weston-Super-Mare due 21:11 will be diverted between Swindon and Bristol Parkway.
It will be delayed due to the diversion and is expected to be 43 minutes late.
This is due to heavy rain flooding the railway.

presumably the blame attribution is done by the station person and then the look for a cab on a GWR▸ , TfW or XC▸ contract? Nightmare! In my case, I informed TFW of the missed connection, told them there were no further trains today. He went into the office and phoned Crosscountry control, who asked for my name and mobile number, was told to wait for a text and wait in the short stay car park outside the station building. 5 minutes later I received a confirmation text from the taxi firm involved, the taxi arrived 15 minutes later, no questions asked and took us both to Pilning, we did have to guide him a little bit  https://imgur.com/a/Mf9SJvo |

Newport must be getting used to doing these things now...! I and a friend had a taxi provided by Crosscountry (arranged through TFW) from Newport to Pilning a few months ago after a missed connection... I was expecting to have to argue for it, but the TFW chap was extremely helpful and it couldn't have gone smoother! From past experiences, Newport is one of those stations to me where 'customer service' hasn't been great in the past.

Customers at Freshford are requested to use the station help-point to summon a taxi. GWR▸ is really starting to like asking their passengers to 'summon a taxi' from the help point... I really do question whether or not it would actually work, GWR suggest that those travelling from Pilning on rail replacement days also 'summon a taxi' from the help point, but I find it hard to believe it would work. It's hard enough to get information from a NRE‡ member of staff through a help point anyway, let alone arrange a taxi... |

1. The freight is shown there and certainly a stop at Pilning at 15:34 would hold it up - there could very well be two reasons for not stopping and only one has been officially stated
2. I would suspect that there's no physical problem to stopping for passengers at Pilining, but there may be a software one. If indeed Pilning has been left out of the stopping points programmed in, a corollary question might be if it was looked out as an oversight, or as a conscious decision.
As far as I know, the SDO▸ mechanism was created exactly for stations like Pilning, so the stop can be programmed in. Some prep work including testing will be required, and that will take time, that's obvious. I would not say it was either an oversight or a conscious decision made by GWR▸ not to include Pilning into the SDO diagram. If there is no requirement, as such, no decision needs to be made. A more interesting question would be, whether giving the 15:34 Pilning slot to a freight company was a deliberate move of Network Rail's, or a simple oversight on their behalf. But I'll leave it to the DfT» to enquire about, if this is of interest to them. They would have known months in advance that they plan for 2C81 to be a 5 car IET▸ from December, so no excuse not to programme Pilning into the SDO in that case, even if it wasn't an IET set, there would still be the issue of it causing conflict between the Machen freight service and the introduced half-hourly service on a Saturday from Paddington to Cardiff at Patchway, which I think is probably the main reason. |

From December, Pilning services change from 08:34 (Taunton) to 08:32 to Penzance and from 15:34 (to Taunton) to become 14:32 to Taunton.
Notice the current 15:34 is now meant to pass Pilning at 15:30 from December but still arrives same time at Taunton.
One hour less to start with limits some of the possible day destinations straight away...

I can never work out the logic of why a bus should be charged and private cars not... Especially as a reasonably filled (passenger wise), Euro 6 vehicle will let out less NOx and particulate emissions per person compared to a car, even more so with the new CNG▸ vehicles in the city... Having a daily charge on a bus just makes the operational costs even more leading to even more cuts in the long run...

Those yellow boxes at Patchway contain bags of grit/salt and 2 shovels (Down Platform) and the yellow boxes at Severn Tunnel Junction are just filled up with grit out of the bag. Not padlocked at either of those two stations.

CNG▸ /= Compressed Natural Gas.
One of the many reasons M1 was delayed was because they had to fit special CNG tanks to the BCT Group depot in Bedminster, beforehand only First's Lawrence Hill depot had the correct kit for the job. |
