I think if Boris wants to give Joe a treat he should arrange a trip up the line in a "heritage" DMU so he can travel in the front  passenger seats with the blinds up and enjoy seeing the route on the journey
Or an autocoach with a GWR Pannier tank behind it.
Or the Steam Railmotor.
3  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Airport stations - a bus ride too far from the away? on: January 20, 2021, 01:04:07 pm
It seems strange to build a new station so close to Horsforth. It would be better to build a line to the Airport from the end of the existing turnback siding at Horsforth or to move some of the Commecial/Retail units elseware and extend the car park at Horsforth.

There is also a large pub ajacent to the station if that was moved as well there would be even more space for parking without affecting any housing.

The new station will be beyond the turnback siding so ether it will miss out on some services or a new turnback will be needed. The line goes into a cutting just beyond the new station site so a new turnback will require extensive earthworks.

It looks like a series of rusty dutch barns.

Maybe the new building at Reading west is not too bad after all.

Another Bridge bash. This time on the Lymington branch.

Evesham Sir Henry Fowler

Fowler was born in Evesham and educated at Prince Henry's Grammar School. The school and its sports fields overlook the point at which the GWR and Midland lines crossed in Evesham.

Pity about lockdown, I would have been down there immediately to verify the truth of the situation.

As the cycling reporter for the Coffee Shop you could claim to be a Journalist. Smiley

I wonder if there is a clause in the contract with Tregenna Castle that says:
The venue shall not be sold or leased to any company owned or controlled by Donald Trump until after the confrence has taken place. Smiley

Further update on the platform information screen.
I had to travel to Evesham this afternoon on the 14:24 to collect my car from the garage.

I arrived at Pershore station at about 14:10, this was taken at 14:16. The time has not updated to GMT due to the system being off line for months.

The Platform Information disply and clock have now been fixed.

Maybe thats why the track has been replaced on the St Ives branch. They are expecting Joe Biden to want to go for a train ride.
13  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: HST derailment, near Stonehaven, 12th August 2020 on: January 16, 2021, 04:46:11 pm
On second thoughts (or rather looks), I think it is "just" the parapet that's gone. Now, what's going to be the current Network Rail way of repairing that? Rebuilt it out of masonry as original? An engineered system, such as a steel wall pinned to the other side (with long pins, obviously)? It's not clear "the usual suspect" - reinforced concrete - is going to be any easier here.

Looking at the attached photo of the derailment site after repair they have replaced the stone with reinforced concrete.

For some reason I am not seeing the images referenced today by RailCornwall.  I am using MS Edge and am logged in; images are showing fine in other posts.

If I reply using the quote button I can see the image URLs and if I copy them into the address bar I can open and see the images.

I had the same problem with his posting on 6 January but the posting on 7 January displays with no problems.

Any ideas please?
With me it works in Edge and Chrome but not Firefox. Huh

Not sure if this has been on the forum before.
