An educated guess - does the main Belfast to Dublin railway run over the top of it?

Correct.

If anyone on here is using the new through service, it would be great to hear what they think of it?

I also used it today:
I took the oppertunity to travel from the Cotswold line and change at Slough then through to Canary Wharf on the Elizabeth line. This will not be available after the December timetable change.
I left Slough at 11:20 on a well filled train with the passenger information screens and automatic announcements not working. Also the maps where still the old ones showing the need to change stations at Paddington and Liverpool street. The driver made good clear announcements at all stations and while waiting at Westbourne park.
We where held for 4 minutes at Ealing Broadway having arrived 3 early. At Westbourne park we where held for the booked 6 minutes, the empty stock for a Paddington Shenfield service departed from the adjacent turnback siding 2 minutes ahed of us. Arrival at Canary Wharf was exactly 1 hour after leaving Slough.

On my return I took the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) to Stratford and the Elizabeth line to Paddington taking 22 minutes this train had working passenger information and the maps showing the trough working.

All very impressive. Finding my way around Canary Wharf that's another matter.

I'm now thinking that the rail industry should do everyone a favour and allow Crosscountry to add a virtual station to their network.

Can’t they be given a real station to manage?  Perhaps one where no other operators serve?  Narborough?

I think the locals would be quite pleased to see a few more added. Burton Upon Trent, Hinkley, Melton Mowbray, Oakham and Stamford all look as though they have been forgotten. Yet all are near the town centres and well used.

Paddington and Reading to the Cotswold line Tuesday 6th Sept 2022

I travelled on the 17:57 Paddington to Worcester Forgate street yesterday. Ok for me but not a good day for those travelling from the south coast and Reading by cross country.

The 17:57 passed trough Reading at 18:22 i.e. 2 min late. The 16:45 Bournemouth Manchester was running late, arriving at Reading also at 18:22. Reading managed to turn it round in 3 minutes leaving again at 18:25.

The 17:57 ran via Didcot platform 3 and paused at Didcot North Junction for about a minute. By this time (18:37) the Manchester train was between Moreton cutting and Didcot east junction.

For some reason the 17:57 was then allowed to proceed arriving at Oxford first meaning that passengers from Reading on the Manchester train then faced an hours wait at Oxford for the Next Cotswold line train.

Then to cap it all the 17:57 was held between Oxford North Junction and Wolvercote Junction waiting for a late running up train to clear the single line from Charlbury. The Manchester train then overtook the 17:57 while it was waiting.

Good luck to those who try and claim delay repay on that lot. Cross country will say they where only 13 late at Oxford and GWR (Great Western Railway) will say they where on time.

All this just to save a path for a non-existant superfast to Bristol.

I've voted as "nothing is holding me back" although in some instances industrial action has been/ may be, a potential or actual spanner in the works.
Same for me although I have had a few problems with last minute Cancelations on the cross country services to Worcestershire parkway also on Avanti west coast and West Midland Trains.

Wigan North Western to Wigan Wallgate is another example of no fares available between the two.

Dorchester West to Dorchester South. One third of a mile and two busy roads to cross

And a market to negotiate if you choose the wrong day. I was making a dash from West to south one day in order to get to Pool for a steam charter to Weymouth. My arrival at west was delayed leaving me about 5 minutes and I found the car park between the two full of people and hazards like racks of clothes on sale.

Amazingly low number of staff shortage cancellations though, given it's a Sunday in the height of BBQ season.......no doubt the overtime comes in handy to offset the pay lost on strike days!

It's too hot for BBQs I know I went to one yesterday Smiley

An Update on the automated on-board announcements on the Cotswold line.

Worcestershire parkway has now been added to the announcements. However a quiet male voice has been used in among the other stations announced in the usual loud female voice.

Yesterday I caught the early morning down Turbo service. On this the female voice announces all the stations including Worcestershire Parkway.

Not good news.

Northern have instructed drivers of 769's to run on Diesel at all times due to Interferance with signalling equipment.

First of all an update on the new road bridge. The deck was lifted into place a few weeks ago and work contiues on the road and bridge. It is not possible to get pictures from a public place at the moment.

And now back to the ticket machine.

A couple of weeks age I made a day trip to the National trust property at Mottisfont. I traveled from Pershore to Mottisfont & Dunbridge. Leaving on the 08:25. My ticket was an Anytime day return. Off peak tickets are available on this train but are more expensive because they are period returns. However I should have been able to use a senior railcard as off peak tickets are available. But even after 08:20 the senior railcard button was grayed out, so I gave up and bought a ticket from the guard.

Today I again caught the 08:25 but this time going to Pewsey to walk along the K and A. Pewsey is outside the Network railcard area so a Senior railcard discount should be available at all times. The machine offered my the correct off peak ticket but again the senior railcard button was greyed out. This time I used my phone to buy an E ticket.
45  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Lowest fare well hidden ... on: March 26, 2022, 21:28:10
There is a lack of consistency as well. On the machine at Pershore the front screen shows tickets to Worcester and Evesham the most common local destinations. However the ticket for Worcester is a single and the one for Evesham is a return.

The arrangement for  time of change from peak to off-peak is a problem as well. There are trains to Worcester at 08:03 and 08:48 on a weekday. The off-peak ticket availability starts at 08:44. If you arrive at the station at 08:41 and try to buy a ticket you will only be offered an anytime ticket. In this case that means most railcards will be invalid as well because both stations are in the Network railcard area. Thus making the return fare £5.70 instead of £3.35.

Unless of course the passenger fails to notice that the front screen fare is a single and ends up paying £5.60 for an anytime single without railcard discount and then another £3.30 to get back home later.

Total £8.90 thats even slightly more than the bus fare Roll Eyes
