1  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Railway History and related topics / Re: GWR branch line from Legacy station on: July 15, 2021, 20:52:05
Thanks for all the information. Since I opened this thread, I have found a hand-written note in my railway archives of quite some age, that makes mention of a goods or mineral train using the branch and then meeting a connection with the Barmouth to Ruabon line in the Ruabon facing direction. Has anyone any news of such a train service as that?
2  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Railway History and related topics / Cirencester branch line on: July 15, 2021, 20:45:45
I think there were two halts, Park Leaze Halt and Chesterton Lane Halt, on the line before Cirencester Town station was reached. Has anyone any family reminicences about this short branch line.
3  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Porkway Partway on: July 09, 2021, 12:49:59
Just feeling my way around this most informative website. I am from the Cheshire East area. There was a discussion earlier in this thread about the use of the word "parkway" and in the south of Manchester, very many years ago, was a good quality road with the name of Princess Parkway, which in its later stages passed through parkland-type areas. That road now where it passes over the River Mersey now becomes the M56 which passes near to Manchester Airport.

Back on the subject of this thread, which I see has been given a "play on words" thread name, the last month that I heard as a possible railway station opening was December 2021.
4  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Railway History and related topics / GWR building near Pier Head in Liverpool on: July 07, 2021, 23:44:20
Does anyone know what this GWR (Great Western Railway) building was used for. It has the railway name painted on the side of the building.

There were three halts on this branch line, Fennant Road Halt, Aberdefyn Halt and Ponkey Crossing Halt in the early years of the 20th century. Did any branch line trains carry on past Ponkey Crossing Halt to join the GWR (Great Western Railway) Ruabon to Barmouth line and if so, did they then go in the Ruabon direction or the Llangollen direction?
6  Journey by Journey / Thames Valley Branches / Re: Chineham railway station on: July 07, 2021, 13:53:09
I have now amended the name to the correct spelling of Chineham on the Wikipedia route-map diagram of their Reading to Basingstoke line diagram.

Hello from a newly joined member of this website. I am now 76 years of age and since 2011, the year after taking retirement as Senior Head of Projects, I joined RailUK forums in order to keep my brain active. In 2011, I set up the Closed Stations Journey quiz and both design and launch all new journeys. We are currently on journey 1,037 in the series so far (Platt Bridge to Piel). This quiz on its very first posting covers all rules appertaining and some guide notes.

I use Wikipedia as a tool, plus all the rail books such as Quick. Whilst looking at the Wikipedia route-map diagram of the Reading to Basingstoke line, where Reading Green Park is at one end (marked projected), at the other end before Basingstoke, Chinham is also shown (marked projected).

I would be pleased to hear information with regards to the proposed station of Chinham.
