The train looks a bit familiar!

Is it me or does the train pictured here look a bit like the original APT (Advanced Passenger Train)?

It was a photo of the middle of a train arriving at a platform with a Mark 2F in Inter City Livery  (red stripe,  ivory & dark grey)  Guess someone at GWR (Great Western Railway) must have complained (or noticed my post Grin)

1A88, 1C90 and 1A90 all lost engines yesterday due to being struck by waves on the sea wall.  Looks like new GW (Great Western) fleet may also be susceptible to the vagaries of the Dawlish weather.

Its the stonework that gives it away for me rather than the names, Bucks may have confused people but that's where Datchet was until 1974!

Postcards, although they are few and far between in this day and age of instant communication and status updates!
14  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Heritage railway lines, Railtours, other rail based attractions / Re: RIP David Shepherd CBE, artist, conservationist, steam enthusiast. on: September 20, 2017, 15:46:00
I had the honour of meeting him at Cranmore in 1972 when I was just a lad and my mum had taken me to see Black Prince.  His art, particularly the elephant paintings were on display (and for sale) in the signalbox at Cranmore IIRC (if I recall/remember/read correctly).  He signed a couple of postcards of his railway paintings for me (which I still have).  I don't think anyone else, apart from Cuneo perhaps, has captured the true spirit of the railway in a painting the way he did, even though a lot of the subject matter was of the decline of steam.

Another sad loss, RIP
15  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cornwall signalling upgrade - ongoing discussion, merged topics on: June 29, 2017, 15:07:56
Reports elsewhere suggest that this contract - if Phase 1 is for Truro to St Erth resignalling - has gone to Atkins, not Amey.

http://www.railstaff.uk/2017/06/12/atkins-awarded-9m-contract-upgrade-signalling-cornwall/

My contact obviously got its 'A's mixed up  Roll Eyes

Amey are doing the works in Cornwall East for the capacity enhancement.  4 New signals and renewals /alterations to axle counters and Plymouth/Lostwithiel panels.  New signals are at Bodmin Parkway and Menheniot.
