  - he's swallowed a dictionary again - or been watching Bernard Cribbins on that Fawlty Towers episode "The Hotel Inspectors".

Seriously though I would echo Chris from Nailsea's comments.  It was a very good watch.  Seeing the work that went in over Christmas 2011 was an eye opener.  The lost property office was also interesting - heard all the stories of false legs being found - but never people trying to claim things someone else might have lost!  Grin

To be honest most computer support people wish people would check their equipment before crying foul.  However it is frustrating when you have done all that and call the helpline and they still tell you to re-install everything!

Glad to hear it worked ok.

Be better than that doll on the testcard - used to scare me as a child.  The girl was OK though.   Grin

Seems we had a small breakdown earlier this evening.  It appears everything is back up and running again.

Thank you for not adjusting your set....  Grin

According to http://www.greatwestern.org.uk/sig1.htm there was a 'box at Scours Lane Junction with 57 levers.

It closed on 25 April 1965 according to another reference I have in a book.

There certainly used to be sign as there is for Tilehurst East but I think it has faded somewhat in recent years.
6668  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Fixing the 07.15 from Charlbury on: February 25, 2013, 13:52:03
The problem is, that if you adjust the timings downward of 1P56, it then comes into pathing conflict with 1A85 from Plymouth to Paddington.

Once you attempt to speed up one service that runs on the (at near capacity) main line between Reading and Paddington you have to consider all the other services it my come into pathing conflict with.

Just to re-inforce the point.  I frequently catch 1A85 - the 12:55 from Plymouth - and I cannot remember a time when it has run straight off the Berks & Hants into the station.  It always gets held at Reading West, or even occasionally, further back at Southcote Junction.  Putting another train into the mix isn't going to improve things.

"This page is intentionally left blank".

No it isn't, someone has written "This page is intentionally left blank" on it.

What's more, they did it intentionally.  Grin

Wonder if some will still be nine coaches with the extra coach for surfboards!

I don't know the intricacies of how Avantix (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) works but do staff have to identify the journey they are making when working the service?  If so perhaps there is some way it can flag up quickly which tickets are vald and which are not on that particular service.

One of my prized possessions is a destination blind from a Reading bus before they got all those new fangled electronic ones.  Best livery in Reading is the 20/21 - the claret is the closest they have to the old maroon livery of my youth.
6674  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture - related rail and other transport issues / Bob Godfrey on Isambard Kingdom Brunel on: February 22, 2013, 22:07:09
Just been reading about the animator Bob Godfrey who has died - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21552718

I knew his work on Roobarb and Custard but I didn't know there was a cartoon of Isambard Kingdom Brunel which he produced called "Great".  I am a great fan of IKB (Isambard Kingdom Brunel) but didn't know it existed.  I have had a look on the net but not managed to find a download of it.  Anyone know anything about it?  I have discovered Richard Briers, who of course also died this week, was the voice of Brunel on the film.

I doubt it will add much to my knowledge of the engineer - but it would be good to see the film which won Godfrey an Oscar.
