466  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: request to ban food on trains on: October 10, 2019, 12:35:35
BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) Wiltshire had a snippet on the news this morning where they spoke to a Swindon bus driver whose comments were along the lines of "a nice idea, but who is going to enforce it. No sensible bus driver is going to put themselves at risk by trying to enforce it".
467  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: 10th October - passenger briefing / December changes, Bristol to Westbury on: October 09, 2019, 18:55:16
Is anyone going to this?
468  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Oyster - end of the line? on: October 08, 2019, 17:19:21
Oyster (Smartcard system used by passengers on Transport for London services) has one big advantage over contactless, at present at least, as you can load your railcard on to it and gain a further reduction on the fare at off peak times.

Pedant alert!
The masts are actually in Wychbold, some 3 miles distant from Droitwich

I must add my congratulations.  The award is well deserved for all the hard work that you put in.
471  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: Truly local journeys in Wales on Senior bus cards on: October 03, 2019, 16:16:35
In the interest of clarity, neither are the Welsh ones valid in England
472  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2019 - TransWilts cancellation and amendments log on: October 02, 2019, 11:50:16
Not very good if you want to travel from Chippenham to Melksham or Melksham to Trowbridge
473  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Changes to Rover ticket coverage on: October 01, 2019, 18:22:00
The map accessed from the GWR (Great Western Railway) website is different again, showing non-validity for the Freedom Of SouthWest ticket on the Castle Cary to Yeovil and Romsey to Eastleigh routes.  All other validities are as previous years.
474  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Changes to Rover ticket coverage on: October 01, 2019, 17:17:19
There has been no publicity at all concerning those "changes". Nor does there seem to be any logic behind them. I suggest that these are cartographical errors.  Certainly I travelled on some of the affected lines on a recent rover

I'll let others have a go as I was there
476  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: GWR December 2019 TT on: September 24, 2019, 16:53:08
Still sadly no services allowing Cornish Travellers to enjoy a Saturday Evening in Plymouth and travel by train. Madness.
Probably down to Network Rail line closures for overnight engineering work

They were busy tending the very attractive gardens when I passed through yesterday afternoon

Missed out there. I've got yakety sax as one of my ring tones on the phone Grin
479  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: IETs into passenger service from 16 Oct 2017 and subsequent performance issues on: September 18, 2019, 20:54:26
I have recently done some fairly long trips including Swindon to Penzance, Bath to Penzance and Newquay to Westbury.  I do find that the seats have softened a bit - or perhaps I have gained more padding on my backside.  If only they could get the wifi and seat reservations systems working reliably.  On my journeys today the wifi only worked for about 10 mins in every hour and on the 1400 ex Penzance the seat reservations only appeared as we passed through Lostwithiel, triggering a bout of musical seats (without the music) as people had to move from reserved seats - including me
480  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2019 - TransWilts cancellation and amendments log on: September 17, 2019, 17:43:07
If they arrive at Swindon slightly early passengers for Trowbridge and Westbury could catch the 2000 service to Bath which connects into a Portsmouth service arriving 2054 & 2100 respectively. Much better
