31  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: MetroBus on: December 14, 2018, 15:32:01
I hope they split route from M1 to M1 and M4 with both M1/M4 looping the city centre and heading back north|south.

This will at least reduce the chance of buses being stuck at one place effecting the whole north|south route.

With this modified route, how do students who live in the Emerson Green area get to UWE at peak time?
33  Journey by Journey / Thames Valley Branches / Re: Greenford branch - drop in traffic. on: December 11, 2018, 19:18:07
Interesting, what happens if connections are frequent and reliable?

Does this drop still happen, or is it a reflection of peoples unwillingness to be stranded at an arbitrary station of no value to them?

From me perspective, one or two connections that are frequent|reliable is not an issue; especially if toilets/refreshments are available.

Since the recent work, electrification and Filton Bank, the quality of service between Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol  Parkway has not improved.

At what point will this service become reliable, with scheduled services and no 10 minutes outside Parkway, waiting for a late London bound train?

Just heard that Bristol Parkway access on on Christmas Eve is by Hunts Ground Road, the Hatchett Road access is not available.

Not sure why.
35  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Metrowest Status on: December 05, 2018, 14:38:38
I started this subject almost two years ago (Jan 2017) with the question is MetroWest dead.

Well two years on, not much progress has been made, but the prerequisite Filton Four Tracking is now done, but not much else.

Will Metrowest be delivered, and if so what and when?

From my perspective, the quality of rail services from|to Bristol have not improved, but deteriorated over this time and I cannot see any improvement over the next twelve months.

Why don't  they renovate Cheltenham station by lowering the track creating 4/6 full and terminating platforms below the current station.

The current station station could be converted into a public space, with access to the real station below.

I've no idea of the cost, but this would make Cheltenham much more useful and allow many more local services.

Money, vision and leadership are needed.

All three are sadly lacking!

Thank you for this update.

I fear that without a significant committed budget, and leadership, our hopes for MetoWest and future transport plans will be not be achieved.

My initial view of WECA» (West of England Combined Authority - about) was a chance to be provide integrated infrastructure and leadership for this area, but I am sadly disillusioned by progress so far.
39  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: November 29, 2018, 13:43:33
Are trains actually moving between Filton Abbey Wood to|from Bristol Parkway at the moment?

I have heard several people say the line is not fixed, and GWR (Great Western Railway) web site reports there are still faults with points and buses are available.

How long does it take to repair ponts?

Is this the same issue as yesterday?

Do rails crack spontaneously, or can the fatigure, wear and tear that leads to 'cracking' be detected before this failure?

So far this year we have had 4 long term closures, and umpteen weekend closures of these lines by Bristol Parkway. Could this have not been detected and fixed then?

The BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) article

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-46359339

appears to be mixing up its bridges. The picture is of the Stoke Gifford bridge at Bristol Parkway, whilst the article refers to to The Little Stoke bridge in Gypsy Patch Lane.

To be honest, I think the traffic jams will remain, just be moved to the traffic lights at GPL (Ground Position Light) on the A38.

The only way to eliminate the traffic jams is to persuade people not to drive, and for that we need the carrot of good, reliable and affordable public transport, and the stick of congestion and pollution charges. This is now the job of WECA» (West of England Combined Authority - about), I believe!
43  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: MetroBus on: November 22, 2018, 08:46:54
The widening of this road will probably add very little to the East Site development. That development will be finished long before this bridge is replaced.

One thing it will do is remove one of the main causes of some of the terrible traffic jams in the area.

Any solution for Aztec West has to include a rail station, and possibly YoBikes or a local frequent bus.

Many months ago I believe Grahame postulated moving Patchway station the half mile to the bottom of Aztec West and Patchway. A much better location, nearer to homes and employment, the only negatives where the steep sides of the rail embankment at this point. If this could addressed, and all Bristol TM(resolve) <-> Cardiff trains where to stop there, then it would certainly make Public Transport more viable.

Triangular runways, why not go circular and be sure the wind is on your side!
