Although not aimed at an individual, I have modified the post

This ‘user group’ seems to have gone quiet recently

Be careful what you wish for? Lol
3  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: Next available train, or wait for your preferred route? on: December 04, 2017, 18:02:22
An observation from working on the woe line ... thinking logically you would imagine the initial question to be 'am i going the fastest route or the cheapest'

however in reality (and this could just be the preference of people from a certain area) the main questions seem to be: how many changes and is it a fast train or a stopper... now a couple of examples are the brighton and great malvern services from salisbury where certain people would rather have a much longer journey (usually on a clapped out 150) to avoid a change even if it means travelling at peak time.... the second example is the 'fast' services to waterloo that miss out the likes of whitchurch and overton... people will actually wait half an hour extra to get a train that is minutes quicker  Roll Eyes

I don't think you can apply logic here  Grin

Crewkerne to Bristol Temple Meads is valid via Exeter or Salisbury. With the hourly service each way it means that you only have half an hour to wait. As such it does not matter which way you go. However it is tempting to do a circular journey.
Unfortunately, as was highlighted in another topic, there is no valid route via Yeovil Pen Mill.

FOSS (Freedom of Severn & Solent Rover) rover gets round the routing issue so you can go via pen mill ... also valid via salisbury, unfortunately not much use via Exeter unless you go for a bus trip between taunton and crewkerne

unless the gwr unit was stuck behind a freight waiting to cross the station throat which couldn't because an emu was stuck (not saying that's the reason but that would work..... beats saying congestion  Grin

Depending on when your 2-3 days a week fall... 7 day seasons may help sometimes

A couple of years ago (prior to the introduction of the yvj-yvp services) i was asked to assist with a fares matrix for the new services.

While i am unable to share that database here is a link to some proposed fares which i put together (most were never used and as this was a few years ago the prices are a little out)

Not sure if this will be of interest or not ... any feedback welcome

Our Bristol office is located in Aztec west, its currently a drive job for me from Andover... putting aside the lack of a station close by my morning commute....timetable as it stands would  require driving to Salisbury and then changing at Westbury for unit with no seats no first class and an unacceptable number of cyclists on board (nothing like ruining a new suit when some selfish idiot rams his dirty oily bike on to an already full train)

The alternative is via reading however that comes with a significant cost increase which i have only been able to justify once

Here is one for you ... a regular annual season ticket is valid at any time on any day during its valid period... once that period ends the ticket is no longer valid for travel or the gold card attached ..... if the part time season ticket is for mondays tuesdays and wednesdays then the ticket is not valid for travel on thursdays.... would the gold card discount be valid on an invalid ticket for that day  Undecided

I have witnessed a train stop short of a dark station platform due to some numpty carrying his bike on his shoulder which with the red light on from a distance looked like someone waving a red light in an attempt to stop the train.....especially when said numpty was walking on the edge of the platform with bike over the edge of the platform

Also just to ask ... if you purchase from a gwr station what perks do you get? .... if you buy one from swt you get 6 or 7 free weekend journeys on south west trains (this may change when first take over)
