1276  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 08, 2011, 15:53:34
I have read on wnxx about some drivers suggesting to take 1 of the class 142's in London Paddington as part of a farewell tour. I would  like to see the looks on people faces as a pacer turns up at Paddington
Round about 1998 and over the turn of that decade Wales and West used to run a 21 25 Cardiff to Paddington and returning at 01 45 via Bath.  FGW (First Great Western) (or their equivalent at that time) had withdrawn the service so Wales and West decided to bid for the gap in the days before DFT (Department for Transport) micro-managing.   It was booked to be worked by a 158 and proved quite popular until the SRA» (Strategic Rail Authority - about) put an end to it.     Now for the punch line !!!   One night due to non-availability of a 158, it was worked by a 143 and kept time !!!  It was also worked by a 150/2 on a very rare occasion.
1277  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 08, 2011, 15:45:53
ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) still seem to have 150s to spare without these two depuising for 158s and even 175s.    The 121 is usually replaced by a 153 if not available although some times a Pacer.
1278  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 06, 2011, 22:11:54
we'll start seeing them arrive now as the 172's were due to start in service with LM (London Midland - recent franchise) this week.
As I posted on 29th August
1279  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: Closure of some Welsh booking offices (allegedly proposed) on: September 06, 2011, 15:46:40
Why was this mentioned in the small print ?   Hoping nobody would notice !!!
ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company)))  or any other TOC may not have any plans to close any booking offives at the present time, but anything could happen in the future if the Government push these findings through.
1280  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: New Customer Information Systems on: September 04, 2011, 17:57:54
Not directly CIS (Customer Information System) but I have just realised that the announcements at Newport now broadcast the English version first before the Welsh version.  It is alleged there use to be cases of people missing trains in the event of a change of platform at the last minute, the train having reached the platform before the announcement filtered through arising in complaints that had the English announcement been made first people may not have missed the train.   The powers to be were not interested in changing the order at the time.

The way projects are delivered in this day and age, it would probably be 125 years before such a feat could be accomplished.    Most of the time would probably be taken up in the Planning Process, fighting NIMBYs, Feasability study, funding seeking, then another costly review and if given the go ahead an extensive tendering process.   While all this is being done, the costs would keep on increasing making it too expensive to go ahead with the construction  !!!     Not possible just to get on and do the job.
1284  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: South Wales local services - Pembroke, Fishguard, Swanline, etc. on: September 01, 2011, 17:43:44
Now the last Bank Holiday of the Summer has happened and the Summer peak is all but over will we see the Pembroke Dock revert back to a 3 diagrams being run by a single 153?

Apparently last Saturday a 153 was on a Coryton service freeing up a pacer to run Pembroke Dock.

Also the Heart of Wales seems to have more 150s on it recently. Could be because a 153 is out being refurbished?

153 booked Coryton Saturdays

I don't believe in posting certain items posted on other Forums without substance and which may be merely based on what somebody may state they have heard or stories that are just based on rumour.  Howeve, this would appear to be genuine in so much as The London Midland website states that the introduction of 172s in service on the Snow Hill lines will commence next week, September 5th. No details are published as to how many will be in service at the outset and the rate of introduction, but we should then expect the arrival of the 150/1s to FGW (First Great Western) as they become released.   (Note 150108 and 150126 already arrived in advance) .
1286  Journey by Journey / North Downs Line / Re: Man seeks talks with SWT after being impaled on railings at Wokingham on: August 23, 2011, 21:53:01
Reported to be on his way to a pub.   Appears he has just left another one !!!
1287  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Growth in rural line traffic on: August 23, 2011, 21:15:14
The suggestion of a Sunday service in the Winter does not seem to have come to anything (Nothing on Journey Planner) and which could perhaps be justified in view of this growth.   Costs would no doubt preclude this.
The topic was discussed earlier on the Cornwall Board.

Thabks Graham. Will try and be more constructive in future.

I write this with trepidation and hope I am not upsetting anybody.  Obviously, I will only make my point general rather than quote any particular posts or members.
Just a thought whether I may have upset any members and if so, please do not be afraid to tell me and I will accept any criticism in true spirit and will apologise if appropriate.
I have posted questions re diagrams which have nor received any response although I feel the information is out there because other members have posted questions on the subject and have received replies, sometimes quite detailed.
Again, I apologise for this post but just baffled more than anything else and hoping that I have not acted appropriately.

1290  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Avocet Line - Exeter to Exmouth - incidents and events; services, stock and related improvements on: August 21, 2011, 22:07:14
No doubt a separate diagram.    There are not enough Units to strengthen all services so the best option has to be taken.   The diagram with the 2 X 2 could have been heavily loaded on another service during the day and the other diagram comfortably loaded for the rest of the day.
