Nice lie-in this morning.............
21:15 Penzance to London Paddington due 05:03 21:15 Penzance to London Paddington due 05:03 has been delayed at Penzance and is now 135 minutes late. This is due to a fault on this train.
Service arrived 15 minutes EARLY into Paddington - at 04:48, from a 23:30 start. Biggest issue for passenger would be the late pick up - for example a planned 23:20 departure from Plymouth turned into having to wait around until quarter pass one in the morning. Looking at the timing, did it really run loco and coaches from Plymouth to Paddington via Bristol and Chippenham in three and a half hours? I think I get the whiff of IET▸ . Edit to add30 minutes start to stop, Bristol Temple Meads to Swindon, 41 miles. Average speed 82 miles per hour. For a train "Pathed as Diesel locomotive, trailing load 350 tonnes. Planned for 75mph max". 91 mph average start to stop, Exeter St David's to Bristol Temple Meads too. It was an IET

I believe the Falmouth Service will run with 3 carriages on the days when Falmouth Town is closed. #Falmouth Town is only long enough for 2 carriages. I'm getting lost ... does that mean it's either 158 or 166s, or is there still the odd 1509xx still around? Don’t think 166 are cleared, they’ve not made it to Cornwall yet. There isn’t any 1509** that I’m aware of but several 3 car 158 about. There are buses and coaches on standby at various locations in Cornwall for the rail including Truro and Falmouth docks It would have to be a 158/9 (3 Car) if it is to be 3 carriages. 166s are not cleared and even if they were nobody in that neck of the woods could drive them and no 3 Car 150s any mor

Perhaps there is a move back to proper trains ?, at least for Inter city services.
But are they really InterCITY? To be such, the Holyhead service should be cut back to Bangor, with only three calls after Cardiff - at Newport, Hereford and Chester. Cardiff Newport Hereford Chester Bangor Not Shrewsbury ? This a major Business Hub so far as Wales is concerned and connections for Mid-Wales and the Cambrian due to it's location.

Interesting to see that loco hauled coaches are being regarded as the "high quality" option ! Most of the railway industry seems to regard LHCS▸ as obsolete with the future said to be Voyagers, IETs▸ and similar.
Two generations ago, the mantra was "It will all be OK when we have got rid of steam" One generation ago it was "It will all be OK when we have got rid of loco hauled services" Until very recently the new mantra was "It will all be OK when we have got rid of so many differing train types and standardised on IETs"
Perhaps there is a move back to proper trains ?, at least for Inter city services.
And now we've got rid of Pacers

Hi all,
I have come across a one or two class 769s operating on the Rhymney valley lines. Can anybody tell me when they will all be in service?
Tom
They have been operating since November and from the May Timetable there should be 6 in service per day but with their terrible availability and failure record sometimes only one might turn out

Additional Information
Due to a broken down freight train between Westbury and Salisbury, train services are being held at various locations. A recue train is on site and preparing to move the broken down freight train. Once the broken down freight train is clear of the area, trains being held at stations will be able to move. People were complaining on Twitter of waiting up to three hours and of a lack of information. All GWR were saying they were waiting info as to when they might be on the move instead of providing an estimate

How about TfW 67's and Mk4 stock? Cardiff - Holyhead loco-hauled not resuming until 13th September according to North Wales Coast [http://www.nwrail.org.uk/nwnews.htm] Short sets but they have buffet/restaurant facilities Just a thought... The crews who will be working this are still training on the Loco and stock and don't have route knowledge and those who have route knowledge don't know the traction and Mark 4s. There are differences between the Mark 3s and Mark 4s so far as competence is concerned. Latest is that one set will be working on June 7th

The Barnstaple trains have been cut back to Exeter Central and running empty to Pinhoe to reverse. If you want St James Park it's a 20 minute wait.
They must be doing something at Exmouth Junction sidings or to do with St James being unstaffed.
Driver change at Exeter Central. Nowt to do with Exmouth Junction. The ECS▸ to Pinhoe is for driver familiarisation in readiness for the ultimate aim of extending the public service out to Pinhoe Why Driver change at Central. The Depot is at St Davids/new Depot
