Go back to sleep and wake up when the trains appear in Journey Planning Systems and not what is in Real Time Trains (RTT» (Real Time Trains - website)) where editing is taking place

32  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: No services between Taunton and Exeter 26/2/21 on: February 27, 2021, 11:12:48

There seems no mention of any alterations to North Devon line trains; possibly they are running via the Exeter Riverside Yard through Goods lines to Cowley Bdge Jn using the long line of redundant and stored EWS (English Welsh & Scottish Railway Ltd, now known as DB Schenker Rail (UK (United Kingdom)))/DB» (Deutsche Bahn - German State Railway - about) coal hoppes for protection ?!

The line is closed between Exeter SD and Crediton, along with the mainline; the early morning services got through and there is a shuttle running Crediton - Barnstaple with a RRB (Rail Replacement Bus) between Crediton - Exeter.
However as the A377 - the natural road between Barnstaple and Exeter - runs through the exclusion zone, I'm not sure what route they're going to take either north to Tiverton and back down the M5 or risk the backroads south to Pathfinder on the A30.

All other services are running Penzance/Plymouth - Exeter SD and Paddington/Scotland/North England/Wales - Taunton/Tiverton Pkwy with RRB between Taunton/Tiverton and Exeter.

SWR» (South Western Railway - about) are running Waterloo - Yeovil Jnc, with RRB Yeovil - Exeter plus ticket acceptance on Stagecoach service 4 Honiton - Exeter.

Exmouth - Paignton unaffected.

This is assuming the exclusion zone stays at the current limit, if it needs to be widened once the bomb is examined, St Davids station will come under the new exclusion zone.

There are some GWR (Great Western Railway) services running via the Mule
33  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: Rolling stock - pacers on way out and new trains on: February 12, 2021, 21:57:59
I'm not sure what the official line is but I haven't seen a Pacer in service since the lockdown timetable change (commuting once or twice a week so I might not have seen if one or two are running); a number of them seem to be sleeping in Landore. Many/most Valley workings are to be 2 cars atm, so the Sprinters can cope; I think there are some 4 car 150 formations on the Rhymneys along with a 769 diagram but not enough 4-cars to need the Pacers, it seems.

As lockdown is eased 4 car trains will be needed for the Valleys to maintain social distancing - during the previous inter-lockdown periods the timetable was still reduced enough to allow this to be workable. Typically 150+14x, so there was always an accessible toilet, although it wasn't unknown for a double Pacer to turn up (which might not be allowed at all now). If lockdown is eased before enough 769s are in service I imagine some Pacers will need to return to service, unless some other solution is found. I can see the full pre-Covid timetable being a struggle if it comes back without Pacers around.

There are also 150+153 Combos on the Rhymney lime
34  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Pacer Replacers on: February 12, 2021, 17:14:32
The railway magazines were saying 143's were being replaced by shortened 2+3 castle class in the Bristol area so 166's can come to Exeter. There must be a couple of 166s at Exeter plus one that seems to come down from Bristol and goes back in the evening. 166s will replace the 150/2s eventually as 165s as 5 cars go to Bristol.

The Paignton "branch" seems to be reduced to an hourly service with a couple of XCountries.

The Paignton service is temporarily reduced due to "Stay at Home" COVID restrictions
35  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Rolling Stock - Cardiff to Portsmouth on: February 11, 2021, 14:58:56
How many class 158s currently work this route?

There is a pair each day
36  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Amended timetable from 4 January 21 on: January 03, 2021, 12:27:08
Paddington Swansea is already hourly.   The ones that run only as far as Cardiff (leaving London at xx.18) in between have been removed - thus making trains to Cardiff hourly (on the way to Swansea).

A matter of how you interpret it.
37  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Amended timetable from 4 January 21 on: January 03, 2021, 10:50:30
In response to the change in Covid19 tiers, an ammended timetable will come in to operation on GWR (Great Western Railway) from 4 January.

Pad - Cardiff: hourly inc Saturdays

Pad - Hereford & Pad - Cheltenham: later start/early finish & some Pad - Cheltenham shortened to Swindon

Night Riviera cancelled until 10 January

Truro - Falmouth: reduced frequency Mon - Fri & 1 tph Sat

Greenford: 1 tph Mon - Sat

Windsor: 2 tph Mon - Sat

Pad - Newbury: reduced frequency Mon - Sun

Pad - Didcot semi-fast: 1 tph Mon - Sat

North Downs: 1 tph off peak Mon - Fri & 2 tph Sat

Reading - Basingstoke: 1 tph evenings Mon - Fri

Banbury - Pad: morning service cancelled Mon - Fri

Plymouth - Gunnislake: reduced frequency Sat

Pad - Bedwyn: cut to Reading - Bedwyn shuttle Sun

Pad - Oxford: 1 tph Sun

Exeter SD - Exmouth: 1 tph Sun

I assume Cardiff should read Swansea
38  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: 4 carriages reduced to 2 - is this the end of GWR pacers? on: January 01, 2021, 16:30:14
Lots of short forms on Bristol based services today:

Quote
12:48 Fareham to Cardiff Central due 15:54
12:48 Fareham to Cardiff Central due 15:54 will call additionally at Dilton Marsh.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.
Will be formed of 3 coaches instead of 5.

14:30 Cardiff Central to Fareham due 17:27
Facilities on the 14:30 Cardiff Central to Fareham due 17:27.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 4.

16:42 Gloucester to Weymouth due 20:10
Facilities on the 16:42 Gloucester to Weymouth due 20:10.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 3.

14:00 Cardiff Central to Taunton due 15:55
Facilities on the 14:00 Cardiff Central to Taunton due 15:55.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.
Will be formed of 3 coaches instead of 4.

Does this co-incide with an appearance of more turbos (you know, the sort that run regional trains in Wessex) in Devon ?
Are there enough people travelling for it to actually matter ??
Will it be fixed in time for any return to work next week ???

There could be a build up of repairs due to Maintenance staff availability being affected by COVID absences.   TFW put out a statement before Christmas that they had staff self isolating.       SPM (St Philip's Marsh (Bristol depot)) could be similarly affected.
39  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: New rolling stock............... on: December 29, 2020, 20:42:22
Apart from weekends when a couple of 158s have been operating, a couple of 158s have come back since the new Timetable  to release Turbos for the Devon Metro
40  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: 4 carriages reduced to 2 - is this the end of GWR pacers? on: December 29, 2020, 17:29:47
143 working 2T20 just seen on Dawlish cams. They're getting there monies worth. Modern Railways say Exeter's are very reliable beating newer stock/

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have branded as a ?disgrace? a decision to keep pacer trains on in Wales for another year ? noting that they were scrapped in Tehran 15 years ago.

Wales is now the only place on earth where pacer trains, built by British Rail in the early 1980s with a planned lifespan of 15-20 years, are still in operation.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Rodney Berman said that Transport for Wales and Ken Skates should apologise to travellers for the failure to replace the trains with new stock

TFW started to make moves when they took over from ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))).    Before the Welsh Government became responsible,  the responsibility lies with the DFT (Department for Transport)

41  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: 4 carriages reduced to 2 - is this the end of GWR pacers? on: December 29, 2020, 17:26:49

The class 158 unit for the 0708 Exeter St D to Barnstaple currently comes,
rather UNrobustly, at 0515 from St Phillips Marsh depot arriving at St D at 0656.
Obviously this is operationally undesirable and in cases of late running then local
Exeter management initiatives are instigated.

When does it go back?  This seems so costly an exercise.

It stays at Exeter for 3 days for the Barneys and then goes back ECS (Empty Coaching Stock) at the end of the third day.      How else do you think it should get there and back.   St Phillips Marsh is their Home Depot

43  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Tall ships Falmouth 2021 on: December 09, 2020, 12:37:21
Are 165/166s cleared to use the Falmouth branch?

Not beyond Plymouth
44  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Signalling problems in Cornwall 16th September 2020 on: September 16, 2020, 11:05:33
The fact that the problem was between Liskeard and Looe suggests that Liskeard itself would be affected thus preventing the unit getting on to the Branch itself.
45  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Additional calls at Temple Meads and Dilton Marsh on: September 13, 2020, 22:17:43
Good to see some of the longer distance trains making extra calls at some of the smaller stations along the way to help fill gaps in the timetable

Quote
Mon, 14 September 07:21 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central due 10:47
14/09/20 07:21 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central due 10:47 will call additionally at Bristol Temple Meads.
This is due to a problem currently under investigation.

Now, please, can we have some extra calls at DMH» (Dilton Marsh - next trains) to restore the timetable to something like usable from the pathetic sub-franchise-spec that's running at the moment
