466  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Rangers/Rovers + 16-25 & HMF Railcards Min Fares on: May 22, 2016, 09:59:15
GWR (Great Western Railway)'s policy on minimum fares for Ranger and Rover tickets has now changed, whereby they were once excluded, any passenger travelling using a 16-25 for a Forces Railcard now has to pay minimum fare (^12 and ^13 respectively) on Ranger and Rover tickets before 10am Mon-Fri excl. Bank Holidays or during July & August.
467  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: WiFi expansion to 150s & 158s on: May 20, 2016, 17:59:13
The Icomera WiFi does seem vastly superior to that on the HSTs (High Speed Train) - more stable and quicker.  Though is that just because few people realise that WiFi is available on units?

470  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: GWR Groupsaves unbarred on: April 23, 2016, 17:23:42
Not that has been specifically made public, but GWR (Great Western Railway) staff haven't been issued barred lists for the past few months, all barred lists have been removed from the National Rail website, and the situation was clarified in last week's retail circular.

Forgot to say that the Night Riviera is also still excluded.
471  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / GWR Groupsaves unbarred on: April 23, 2016, 15:37:08
GWR (Great Western Railway) have had a (temporary) change in their Groupsave ticket policy.
Whereas Groupsaves used to be barred on specific days due to major events such as football, horse races, festivals etc; now, with the exception of the afternoon/evening peak Friday Paddington - Penzance services, Groupsave is available on all off peak services.
472  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Car Parking - Parking Charge Notices (PCN) - merged topic / ongoing discussion on: April 12, 2016, 08:36:58
I had a PCN notice from APCOA (Car parking company used at GWR (Great Western Railway) - controlled stations in the area) last January because I transposed 2 digits of my numberplate in the machine for ^150.

The original parking fee as ^5 for 24 hours.

I wrote a letter back to them stating that the vehicle owner was not obliged to identify the driver, the charge of ^150 was not a reflection of any cost lost, and as the vehicle was parked for less than 24 hours, APCOA had in fact gained revenue.

Never heard anything back.

473  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: WiFi expansion to 150s & 158s on: April 10, 2016, 16:11:56
As the HSTs (High Speed Train) and 180s have WiFi, and the 165s and 166s are being rolled out, its now the turn of the 150/2s, 150/0s and 158s begin to get theirs fitted.

Unfortunately Devon and Cornwall won't benefit much as most of their services are provided by 143s, 150/1s and 153s.

I imagine the 4G coverage is fairly patchy too!

And yet GWR (Great Western Railway) are expecting staff to do everything electronically which needs at least a 4G signal.  Does STARMobile have an offline mode so tickets can be sold when there is no suitable signal?

475  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: 1903 Paddington - Plymouth 24th March on: March 26, 2016, 07:34:48
Not necessarily so as Maundy Thursday is the busiest travel day of the year across all modes of transport, regardless of whether it falls within/at the start/near the end of the Easter school holidays.  This has been known and publicised for years.

477  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Off Peak Day Returns more expensive than Devon Day Ranger/Ride Cornwall on: March 23, 2016, 08:49:50
Many staff in Devon and Cornwall have figured out - on their own initiative - that a Devon Day Ranger or Ride Cornwall can be cheaper than (or equivalent to) a CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day')), in much the same way the Devon Evening Ranger is usually the cheapest fare after 18.00.

But many D&C residents don't know of their existence, let alone their entitlement to a D&C Railcard; and as usual a TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) cannot sell Ranger and Rover tickets (nor off peak fares after 00.00).

However, this "loophole" is rumoured to be "fixed" by the prices of the Rovers rising come May.

479  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Bicycles on trains - new policy from May? on: March 16, 2016, 07:16:37

I have it good authority that from may 16th 2016 bike reservations will be compulsory on all hst and 180 stock, no reservation no travel.!!!!!!

But the Train Manager still has discretion to allow unreserved bikes so long as there are unreserved spaces available.

This policy is going to put more pressure on the units if people are turned away from HSTs (High Speed Train)/180s or just can be bothered reserving.
480  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: 0809 Filton Abbey Wood to Portsmouth Harbour Announcements on: February 22, 2016, 09:13:17
No, this also happens at Paignton - Exeter St Thomas inclusive when a train divides at St David's.  The CIS (Customer Information System) states front 2 if travelling to Exeter Central and beyond, but you need to be in the rear 2.

Auto CIS, and some passengers, cannot handle trains that reverse en route and divide at that point.
Mind you some passengers cannot handle what is the front and rear of a train even when its moving.
