XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) have a rolling 2 week menu of complimentary 1st class food; a breakfast and lunch/snack menu avaiulable Mon-Fri between 06.00 and 20.00 on journeys from Birmingham NS - Bristol/Plymouth, Manchester Pic, Newcastle/Edinburgh, and Reading/Bournemouth.

Selected Turbostar services have basic complimentary drinks and biscuits.

Shame this article wasn't produced earlier in the year, or connected with the strikes.
No one knows the connection, but still believe they were about pay and deliberate inconveniencing of the public.
513  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: How Not To Sell Train Tickets: An Intending Passenger Writes on: October 02, 2015, 09:24:31
I thought rovers and rangers couldn't be bought online or via telesales anyway.

I hate the new gwr website.  It seems very hard to navigate (and doesn't work on certain mobile/tablet browsers), and a fair bit of information has not been transferred across - rover and ranger details being one case in point, but also all the definitions of what ticket is appropriate for what has gone.
514  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: Unexpected diversion 28 September 2015 on: September 28, 2015, 19:44:08
08.50 a Member of public reported a body near the line, all trains on stop BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains)-BTH» (Bath Spa - next trains)
09.03 BTP (British Transport Police) in attendance and trains under caution
09.12 BTP advised the body was far enough away from the line to allow trains to run normally
15.00 - 16.00 up line closed due to forensic search

So the decision to divert the 09.00 would have been taken before BTP declared the line could open.

It renders awfully on a mobile or tablet, with either a huge immovable menu overlay that blocks the whole screen or you get a corrupt script warning, depending on the browser.

A ba****d set of green locos and green and blue carriages was in Laira today.

At least it is covered by CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision), unlike HSTs (High Speed Train).
519  All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Re: Taking a wheelchair on a train on: September 26, 2015, 12:32:05
If folded, you store it like any other piece of luggage.

Carriage D of voyagers have large luggage storage space, and the wheelchair area carriage C of GWR (Great Western Railway) HST (High Speed Train) would be most appropriate, as there would still be room for an unfolded wheelchair.

Anyone caught out shouldn't simply have assumed without checking frankly

Ah, but this is Joe Public we're talking about! I bet there will be a fair few folk wandering around Paddington and/or Reading late on Saturday night wondering where/how to spend the night...

There's complaints on Twitter already from people attending.

Another cock up by gWr; official brief is that travelling FROM Exeter you must alight at Digby and travelling FROM Exmouth you must alight at Newcourt.

However, the posters are worded

"If travelling in the Exeter direction you must alight at Digby; if travelling in the Exmouth direction you must alight at Newcourt".

The phrase "in the ... direction" means towards, not from.

LTV (London [and] Thames Valley) wanted more seats because standard was "always packed and first class was always empty", so that's what they've got, all standard trains.

It's Cornish.
524  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Revenue Protection Officer On Train Authority on: September 12, 2015, 15:52:09
We're talking FGW (First Great Western) (GWR (Great Western Railway)) here, their T&Cs do not mention having to occupy the reserved seat, only travelling on the booked train, hence NRE(resolve)'s "where applicable.." caveat.

Anyhow, back to the original question at RPI (Revenue Protection Inspector (or Retail Price Index, depending on the context)) is subordinate to the guard, and will (if possible) ask his/her permission to board a train.
525  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Revenue Protection Officer On Train Authority on: September 12, 2015, 13:12:51
No, passengers do not have to sit in their reserved seat on advance tickets, only be on the booked train.  However, if they are not using their reserved seat, they cannot occupy another reserved seat if that reservation is valid and should expect to move if the passenger turns up.

However, a TM(resolve) may enforce reserved seat only when the train is expected to be busy, but that is on a case by case basis.
